Girl Scouts of Colorado seeks a passionate, driven, skilled and entrepreneurial Chief Development Officer to lead our fundraising strategy and team. Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Development Officer will manage strategy and fundraising operations across individual, corporate, foundation and special event fundraising. The CDO will work in close partnership with the CEO and is responsible for continuing to grow philanthropic revenue for the organization. The successful candidate will leverage expertise and bring proven results in non-profit fundraising to lead a dynamic team committed to the Girl Scout mission. The CDO also effectively leads a fund development committee and stewardship strategies among donors, the CEO, and Board of Directors. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the CDO ensures the development and success of the organization by growing the culture of philanthropy, leading development initiatives, contributing to strategic planning, and directing and implementing strategies to secure donors and contributions in support of the organization and its mission. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Department and Organizational Leadership: Embrace and support the mission of Girl Scouts of Colorado. Alongside the CEO, represent Girl Scouts of Colorado throughout the state. Provide leadership to and supervise a team of development professionals, which includes three direct reports and a total team of seven. This includes recruiting, training, motivating, and mentoring/coaching. In partnership with CEO, establish department annual expense and revenue budget; ensure financial accountability and stewardship. Direct and supervise activities of the development department, including individual giving (annual, major gifts, planned gifts), corporate and foundation partnerships (grants and sponsorships) and special events. Establish and oversee all short- and long-term development strategies, including ROI, goals, objectives, metrics, and tracking and reporting of benchmarks. Work with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team to identify and articulate compelling giving opportunities which inspire donors' most generous gifts. Monitor and ensure the efficient use of fundraising systems and processes. Create annual development strategic plan, including team performance goals and metrics; track progress and report results; regularly evaluate effectiveness of plan and make modifications as needed. Partner across the organization to execute funding strategies for mission advancement to include outreach strategies, community events, girl experiences, and property support. Remain informed of advancements in philanthropy and fund development as well as the general fields of management and the not-for-profit sector; informs the CEO, development committee, and board on current trends, issues, problems, and activities. Actively participate in Senior Leadership Team meetings, helping to strategy for the organization and ensure its long-term success. Board of Directors: Engage and inspire the Board of Directors in all aspects of fundraising strategy with a focus on identification, cultivation, stewardship, and recognition of current, lapsed, and new donors. Provide training, support and resources to Board of Directors to ensure impactful engagement in development efforts. Lead and provide support to the Fund Development Committee of the Board of Directors and staff via regular meetings. Participate in regular Board of Director meetings and prepare reports prior to each meeting, including revenue progress to date and individual board giving reports. Assist with conceptualizing and developing an advisory group to serve as GSCO ambassadors in the community, further fuel fundraising, and complement the Board of Directors. Assist CEO and board governance chair in recruiting and onboarding members. Work with CEO and Board of Directors to determine and achieve "give or get" policies. Fundraising & Donor Relationship Management: Personally manage a diverse portfolio of 20-40 major individual donors and corporate and foundation funders. Oversee all aspects of fundraising across the organization including corporate and foundation partners, special events (approx. 15 fundraising events and 45 partner events per year) and individual giving. Attend all fundraising events and key partner events throughout the state. Cultivate key relationships and build funding relationships through strategic stewardship calls, personal visits, tours, and other engagement opportunities. Develop a balanced funding mix of donor sources and solicitation programs tailored to the needs of the organization that will enable it to attract, retain and motivate donors and fundraising volunteers. Find new ways to meet funding needs in a fast-paced environment by ideating and implementing creative approaches to fundraising challenges. Lead efforts to strategically identify and grow corporate and foundation partnerships. Oversee effective donor and prospect tracking through utilization of Raiser's Edge donor database and other tools and resources. Coordinate with finance and program departments to ensure accuracy of gift tracking and reporting. Routinely analyze donor revenue (to goals); implement changes as needed. Designs and implements cultivation, acknowledgment, and recognition programs Assure that all fundraising programs of GSCO are consistent with the overall mission and philosophy of GSCO and comply with GSUSA, local, state and federal rules and regulations for charitable organizations. Perform other duties as assigned. PRIMARY CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES In accordance with the philosophy of Girl Scouts of Colorado, the person filling this position may occasionally be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in addition to the duties listed on this job description. QUALIFICATIONS Education A bachelor's degree in a related field. CFRE preferred. Experience Minimum of 10 years of experience in non-profit fundraising and a minimum of 5 years experience managing a team. A proven track record of soliciting and closing six- and seven-figure gifts. Experience in relationship-based fundraising with an intentional focus on cultivation, stewardship, and building personal relationships with philanthropists and organizations to secure major gifts. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Attributes Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies including staff, board members, and donors with varying levels of philanthropic sophistication. Understanding of the Colorado philanthropic landscape is preferred but not required. Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. Knowledge of and experience using prospect research tools, gift calculators and donor CRM software (Blackbaud NXT experience preferred). Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet concurrent deadlines, organize time and priorities, and to do so in collaboration with diverse stakeholders Knowledge and experience in the nature and dimensions of philanthropy, ethics, motivations for giving and volunteering, research and cultivation practices, standard fundraising techniques including face-to-face solicitation, proposal writing, special events, telephone solicitation, and direct mail, and, development office functions including gift processing, prospect and donor histories, and fundraising reporting. Ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate, and alter strategic development plans.   Ability to maintain the highest level of discretion with respect to confidential information. Superior knowledge and command of Microsoft Office products. A strong customer service ethic and high expectations for quality. A high degree of integrity, initiative, and resourcefulness. Ability to travel 15% of the time, primarily within Colorado. Additional Requirements Access to transportation with insurance at required state levels to conduct business statewide, and be able to stay overnight, if required. Valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to the Girl Scout insurance company. Must be able to pass a criminal background check acceptable to GSCO standards. The Ideal Candidate Will...
