Environmental Remediation Specialist/Manager Location: Wilmington, Delaware Introduction to role: Do you have a passion for environmental remediation and an interest in leading impactful change? We're on the lookout for a dedicated Corporate Environmental Remediation Specialist/Manager to spearhead our efforts in enhancing the environment every day. In this role, you'll be at the forefront of driving innovative environmental remediation strategies while ensuring compliance with regulations at our legacy remediation sites.At AstraZeneca, we believe that science has the ability to change lives and that to deliver this takes many people with many skills. Accountabilities: In this role, you'll report to the Senior Director, Environmental Remediation, and manage the remediation of various environmentally impaired legacy sites in the U.S.Main Duties and Responsibilities: Assists with the administration and implementation of the remediation program as needed, providing strategic input on continuous improvement efforts initiated by the Senior Director, contributing to these initiatives through program management expertise. Accountable at specific legacy sites within the U.S. for maintaining compliance, developing and implementing cost effective remediation strategies and optimization of existing systems, and ensuring overall performance of local consulting firms. Provides strategic interaction with regulatory agencies in advancing sites toward closure. Aggressively manages all assigned sites, ensuring external resources are focused on goals of cost-effective site closure, in line with overall goals of the Company. Manages external legal support functions by ensuring outside counsel are focused on relevant legal issues that advance Company strategy efficiently, controlling legal spend. Owns and deals with a wide range of environmental remediation problems that require in depth knowledge of remedial technologies, complex judgements and innovative solutions. Assists in community relations efforts where needed in support to Senior Director. Responsible for establishing and managing legal and technical budgets on all sites being managed. Assists with the administration and management of the annual budgeting process, invoicing procedures and cost/spend tracking using internal controls, ensuring contribution to business targets Actively manages change and associated uncertainty across the remediation portfolio through creative problem solving and interaction with the Senior Director and relevant functions. Essential Skills/Experience: Bachelor's degree in a scientific/engineering field (Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, or related field preferred) 5 or more years of experience in environmental consulting and or remediation Experience managing external teams of engineers and consultants Strong writing, editing, and communication skills Strong skills with MS Excel, Project, Word and Power point Experience managing multi-million dollar remediation projects and budgets at multiple sites simultaneously Strong regulatory negotiation skills Understanding of corporate risk management processes and policies with respect to environmental remediation, including reserve forecasting Knowledge of relevant national, state and local environmental regulations, legislation and policies/management initiatives Desirable Skills/Experience: Experience negotiating with regulatory agencies Experience in remedial construction management and oversight Experience in corporate environmental affairs Experience managing external legal resources Master's degree a plus Project Management Professional Credential a plus When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life-changing medicines.
