Spencer Springs Animal Hospital is looking for a Veterinary Assistant to join our overnight team in order to care for our hospitalized and/or boarding patients! The team at Spencer Springs is passionate and deeply committed about the animal health industry. We collaborate with one another to help solve industry-wide problems. Our skilled veterinary staff offers complete dental care, advanced surgery, general medicine, laser therapy, and urgent care at an AAHA accreditation level. Position Overview: The Veterinary Assistant supports the hospital by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and extraordinary service to our patients and clients. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will fully assist the DVMs and RVTs to help improve the quality of care to the patients by relieving them of technical work and achieving greater efficiency at Spencer Springs Animal Hospital. Duties and Responsibilities: Assist in determining animal requirements by helping conduct animal examinations, restraining patients, and reviewing care plans and records Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering vaccines, providing wound care management, completing laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging Assembling required supplies and instruments for procedures Fill prescriptions and administer PO, SQ, IM, IV medications, including proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs Maintain a safe, secure, healthy and humane environment by following documented standards and procedures in compliance with applicable legal regulations Maintain medical records by documenting patients’ conditions, reactions, and changes; updates database in an accurate and timely manner Ability to demonstrate and follow procedures in catheter placement and phlebotomy Qualifications and Skills: At least 2 years of experience performing above duties Overnight experience preferred but not required Experience in surgery is a plus High School Diploma/GED Knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs and calculations Able to perform moderately physically demanding work, that requires lifting (up to 50 pounds), cleaning, and constant motion Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors Available Schedule: Full-time position, shifts will be Monday-Thursday from 7pm-5am We are open: M-F 7:30am-6pm Saturdays 8am-4pm Closed Sundays Our facility is closed during overnight hours but our overnight patients still need care and monitoring from you!
