Job Description: As a Dental Hygienist, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional oral healthcare to our patients. Your primary responsibility will be to perform dental cleanings, conduct oral examinations, and educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices. You will work closely with our team of dentists and dental assistants to ensure that our patients receive personalized and comprehensive dental care. This role reports to the Hygiene Team Leader Job Type : Part Time Salary: Competitive Compensation of $45/h to $55/h - commensurate with experience Bonuses available to team members working weekends. Duties and Responsibilities: Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned by management. Providing Preventative and Periodontal Service and Oral Health Assessment: Perform thorough dental cleanings, including removing plaque, calculus, and stains from teeth. Conduct comprehensive oral health assessments, examining patients for signs of oral diseases such as periodontal disease and oral cancer. Take dental X-rays as necessary and analyze them for signs of dental issues or abnormalities. Apply preventive treatments such as fluoride and sealants to protect teeth from decay. Patient Education: Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, including brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash. Provide personalized recommendations for oral care products and techniques based on individual patient needs. Demonstrate proper techniques for using dental appliances, such as orthodontic braces or dentures. Discuss the importance of regular dental visits and schedule appointments for patients as needed. Dental Treatment Support: Assist dentists during dental procedures, including preparing and sterilizing instruments, handing instruments to the dentist, and managing suction devices as needed. Update patients' medical histories, record treatment plans, and document patient information accurately in dental records. Administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide as directed by the dentist. Monitor patients during procedures and promptly address any discomfort or concerns they may have. Responsible for contributing to the productivity of the office by contacting and scheduling patients. Infection Control and Safety: Adhere to strict infection control protocols, maintaining a clean and sterile dental environment. Follow safety guidelines and procedures to protect patients and staff from potential hazards. Properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials, such as sharps and chemicals, in accordance with regulatory standards. Responsible for maintaining office equipment. Professional Development: Stay updated on the latest advancements in dental hygiene techniques, technologies, and regulations through continuing education and professional development opportunities. Attend conferences, seminars, and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge in the field of dental hygiene. Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals. Performs additional duties as assigned. Education & Experience: Degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited dental hygiene program. Current state license or certification as a Dental Hygienist. Current state anesthesia license 5+ Years of experience Skills & Capabilities: Proficient in performing dental cleanings, oral health assessments, and dental X-rays. Knowledge of dental hygiene best practices and procedures. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively educate and engage with patients. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a dental team. Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity. Familiarity with Carestack dental software, Dexis, and Itero is desirable. Willingness and ability to use technology . Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy. Willingness to adhere to infection control and safety protocols. Excellent bedside manner Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and effectively communicate with diverse patient populations, staff, and contacts in a professional and compassionate manner. Capabilities Prolonged periods of standing, leaning and bending. Effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing, including by phone, text, e-mail, or in person. Understand, remember, communicate and apply [routine/complex] oral and/or written instructions and information. Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Maintain sustained concentration on computer screens and use keyboards and a variety of peripherals.
