Job Description: The Technical Training Instructional Designer will design, develop, and deliver training for adult learners through each phase of the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) training model to support Mazda dealership technical and fixed operations personnel as well as support staff (i.e., Hotline, Engineering, and field support teams). This role will design and develop Mazda-specific training and just-in-time (JIT) performance to improve customer handling, technical knowledge, Fix-It-Right-The-First-Time, customer satisfaction index, customer retention and related KPIs and metrics. In addition, the Instructional Designer will design and develop training curriculum through a variety of instructional methods and media, including instructor-led courses, e-learning, interactive distance learning, and just-in-time content. The Instructional Designer will collaborate and partner with internal and external resources to develop effective instructional materials and on-the-job support materials. Major Areas of Responsibility: Design & Development - 60% Design performance-based objectives as part of training, to include specific standards, metrics, etc. as appropriate. Develop performance measurement instruments such as surveys, evaluation metrics, and forms for processing data and audience input. Based on project goals and objectives, develop detailed content outlines for various training deliverables such as WBT, IDL, JIT Video, and ILT. Develop visualizing graphics, the user interface, and the finished product in design document drafts and presentations. Based on proven instructional design practices, draft storyboards, presentations, quizzes, and video scripts. Create engaging learning activities and course content that enhances knowledge and skill transfer. Collaborate with vendors in designing content development activities and review vendor supplied deliverables. Create final output for presentations and web-based training courses using rapid development tools such as MS PowerPoint and Articulate Storyline. Conduct validation activities to ensure that content is ready for final publishing and implementation. Submit all documents for review and make changes as directed. Analysis - 20% Conduct instructional needs assessments by analyzing concerns, data, knowledge, and skill gaps. Assist in the development of project specifications and writing requests for proposals, all while maintaining schedules and budgets. Consult with subject matter experts to identify audience needs. Implementation & Evaluation - 20% Supply training curriculum and all instructional material to instructors in the field and LMS team. Create end of project documentation and archive project materials. Assist in conducting pilot tests and Train the Trainer sessions. Evaluate training effectiveness by observing pilot testing of training materials and comparing results to performance-based objectives. Continuously monitor and document user metrics, test scores and/or other available data to evaluate training success. Identify areas of concern, provide recommendations to address and implement corrections. Qualifications and Other Requirements: Education: Bachelor's degree in Automotive Technology, Engineering, Applied Science, Business Management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience. Minimum of three (3) years' instructional design experience in automotive/transportation technical training and/or technical writing, including layout and design. 2+ years' experience with e-learning and web application development. 2+ years' experience implementing training-based adult learning techniques or material. Technical writing experience, including layout and design. Preferred but not required: Learning Management System (LMS) implementation and management. Video production and editing experience with tools such as Adobe Premiere and Camtasia. Web based training (WBT) development using rapid development tools such as Captive and Storyline. Training/Certification: Instructional Design certification preferred. ASE certifications preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Automotive technical knowledge through hands-on experience and/or meaningful training. Specific Mazda product knowledge a plus. Knowledge of dealership service and parts operation. Knowledge of raster, vector and/or 3D graphic design and development using tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign. Ability to collaborate with and extract knowledge from subject matter experts and synthesize content from multiple sources to create solutions that achieve learning objectives. Proficient in creating, delivering, and customizing engaging presentations for diverse audiences. Confident and effective presentation skills. Knowledge of just-in-time learning and performance support concepts. Project management skills preferred. In-depth understanding of formal training practices and standards. Knowledge of content management systems and single-source content development a plus. Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as the ability to learn and effectively utilize other software applications used within the Company. Ability to produce timely deliverables and manage multiple and shifting priorities in a dynamic environment. Well-balanced interpersonal skills; Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management, employees, customers, and outside vendors; Must be able to clearly and effectively communicate both orally and in writing, using good grammatical form, both in general correspondence, as well as on technical issues. Must be analytical and a problem solver with the ability to identify problems and/or cause-effect relationships; identify key issues; secure relevant information from all appropriate sources; identify possible root causes of problems and develop and implement corrective actions for resolution. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential. Must be able to establish a course of action for self and others/department to accomplish specific goals; must plan and prioritize proper assignments of personnel and/or appropriate allocation of resources. Self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision and/or direction.
