Our Animal Science and Technologies department plays a vital role in developing transformative medicines by conducting animal studies that support all stages of drug discovery and development across various therapy areas. We ensure the delivery of safe and effective treatments to patients.Accountabilities:As an Associate Specialist, you will work independently and as part of a team, safely conducting hands-on husbandry duties with multiple laboratory animal species. You will operate cage wash equipment, maintain the animal facility in a clean and orderly condition, receive, quarantine, and remove animals as required. You will also perform daily health checks, evaluate the health status of animals, and communicate concerns with team members. Your role will also involve using digital resources for log keeping and communication.Essential Skills/Experience: HS diploma or equivalent and 2 years of employment ideally in the bioscience field Ability to meet physical requirements of the job to include lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, grasping, reaching, crouching, exposure to heart, and prolonged periods of time working on your feet. Knowledge and use of protective equipment and safety procedures related to the possible exposure to dusts, viruses, tissues, chemicals, fumes, vapors, and mists that could potentially affect the health of the employee Willing to perform husbandry tasks for animals exposed to BSL2 agents. Basic computer skills - Microsoft Office, Outlook Good communication skills, competent in written and spoken English Ensures welfare and environment of the animals is maintained to the highest standard including feeding and cleaning. Plans, performs and reports in vivo practical techniques and procedures for the conduct of studies. Will have obtained or will be working towards a relevant certificate or qualification. Desirable Skills/Experience: Certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science at the ALAT level Knowledge of normal animal behavior for mouse and rat species Knowledge of hazardous and infectious material handling At AstraZeneca's Biopharmaceuticals R&D department, you'll play an essential role in helping patients who need it the most.
