Graphic Designer II University Union REQUISITION #554102326 University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) at Sacramento State is seeking a Graphic Designer II for the University Union. The University Union is part of the Union WELL Inc., an auxiliary of Sacramento State and a California 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation. The University Union facility, totaling approximately 220,000 square feet, currently houses food service operations, retail operations, multiple meeting and conference spaces, Associated Students, Inc., Student Organizations and Leadership offices, Women's Resource Center, PRIDE Center, KSSU Student Radio, Public Information Desk, Games Room, Union Gallery, Terminal Lounge (music/video digital media), Student Computer Lounge, Meditation Room, computer and printer workstations throughout the building, a University Police Service Center, and various open lounge spaces. The facilities provide services to over 31,000 students, as well as faculty and staff on campus. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a full-time, non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay), benefited position that is covered under the California Public Employees' Retirement System. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or related field. Demonstrated professional experience in the graphic design field with thorough knowledge of the production and print processes of graphic design. Demonstrated professional experience with the design, layout, and implementation of final artwork into a visual product. Demonstrated extensive professional experience working with Apple Macintosh computers and peripheral devices such as scanners, printers, and digital cameras. Demonstrated professional experience in creating computer illustrations and performing digital image manipulations and techniques. Demonstrated extensive experience with graphic design software, including Adobe Creative Suite. 7. Demonstrated exceptional oral and written communication skills, including accurate English usage and exceptional proofreading and editing skills. Demonstrated extensive experience with the principles of print design, typeface, color, layout, and production techniques. Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and storyboard ideas and coordinate a production team. 10. Must possess good time/project management skills for working in and meeting deadlines in varied and hectic environments. Demonstrated ability to coordinate, and establish project production schedules, work independently with little direction and coordinate many different tasks, determining the importance of each, setting deadlines, and completing projects accordingly. Demonstrated ability to perform a variety of research and to develop ideas for the design, layout, and preparation of printed materials. Demonstrated ability to write and edit material on a variety of subjects. 12. Experience supervising or leading one or more staff members. Must be free from color blindness. Must pass a background check, which may include fingerprinting. Must continue to meet the established standards. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master's Degree in Graphic Design or related field. Demonstrated experience in website maintenance using content management systems. 3. Demonstrated experience using motion graphics and digital video editing software. Demonstrated professional experience in capturing, editing, and assembling video footage into a final product. 5. Demonstrated photography skills. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in an office environment; continuous contact with staff, campus community and the public. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This position is part of a creative team of professional staff who are responsible for initiating, supervising, providing, and maintaining the workflow and production of graphic design services such as posters, static and digital displays, fliers, websites, directional signage, brochures, video, advertisements, and other marketing/public relations and promotional materials for the various programs and departments throughout Union WELL, Inc. This position reports to, and receives general supervision from, the Union Design, Identity, and Studio Manager. This position provides creative and work direction to student design interns and employees. This position meets regularly and works with professional and support staff of the University Union and The WELL. The specific duties and responsibilities are as follows: Designs, develops, and creates marketing/public relations and promotional materials for print, web, multi media, and motion graphics, using primarily Macintosh computer systems (with appropriate software.) Print applications include (but are not limited to) multi-page layouts, brochures, posters, calendars, advertisements, fliers, logos, signs, promotional displays, and presentation materials. Takes full leadership in design campaigns, managing and creating print, web and multimedia collateral for Union and WELL programs and services. Meets with staff and clients to discuss and establish the goals, design approaches, content needed, and realistic timeline for fulfillment of their work order submissions. Proofs and verifies accuracy of work and assists with the review of the unit's design output for spelling, punctuation, grammar, consistency, format, and spacing. Researches project information, develops ideas and design comprehensives, and produces final products or campaigns consistent with the initial research or supplied event information. Establishes project requirements, materials, production schedules, and project costs. Coordinates and schedules printing and vendor services in the preparation of final products. Performs press checks and approves final copy before the commencement of printing production runs. Supervises project workflow, develops historical files on design projects, and implements scheduled data archiving. Provides design and work direction for student interns and student assistants. Participates in the review and selection process for design interns and student assistant positions. Provides daily training and development opportunities for junior staff members. Responsible for ongoing design, maintenance, and online presence of various components of the University Union and The WELL and related web sites. Develops styles, templates, navigation, page layouts, and forms for a variety of web-based projects. Conceptualizes, designs, writes, and creates storyboards for development of complex digital graphic collateral projects, utilizing various technologies and delivery vehicles. Designs and maintains projects for frequent display on digital signage in the University Union and The WELL and for periodic distribution through the University's outdoor digital signage system. Leads and/or assists with special projects for the design team, as assigned. Maintains professional relationships with both on and off-campus vendors, as well as other University departments and operations. Scans and performs digital photo manipulation for both print and screen applications. Assists the Design, Identity, and Studio Manager in upholding style guide compliance and protecting the visual integrity of the University Union, The WELL, and related brands. Represents the design team with the campus community, the public, and others connected with the services provided by the Union WELL, Inc. Note: This position vacancy is with University Enterprises Inc., an auxiliary organization of California State University, Sacramento. This is not a University position; the incumbent will be an employee of University Enterprises.
