VP Model Risk General Summary:Independently oversees and manages model risk within the Bank, playing a critical role in establishing and implementing robust model risk management frameworks and ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and industry best practices. The VP - Model Risk leads a team of model risk professionals, collaborates with stakeholders across the organization, and provides strategic guidance on model risk management. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and implement a comprehensive model risk management strategy aligned with the bank's risk appetite and business objectives. Establish and maintain policies, procedures, and guidelines for model risk management, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and collaborating cross-departmentally with operations and IT staff. Establish and maintain effective model governance frameworks, including model inventory, model change management, and ongoing model monitoring. Coordinate with key stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulatory model risk requirements (FHFA AB 2013-07; FHFA AB 2022-03). Perform, lead, and manage internal and external independent model validations for complex models, ensuring the models and validations are comprehensive, accurate, and meet regulatory expectations. Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure identified issues/findings and addressed in a timely manner. Develop and implement model risk reporting to provide accurate and timely information to management and the board. Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization, building strong relationships and communicating effectively to understand business needs, address concerns, and provide guidance on model risk management matters. Oversees hiring, training, leading, and mentoring a team of model risk professionals. Maintains and promotes positive employee relations. Maintains awareness of emerging trends, industry best practices, and technological advancements in model risk management.Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Knowledge at a level normally acquired through the completion of a Master's or Ph.D. degree in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or financial engineering required. Ten years' experience in model validation and/or model development at a financial institution, rating agency, regulatory agency, or as a financial industry consultant. Strong knowledge of financial models, risk management concepts, and regulatory requirements. Familiarity with regulatory guidelines such as SR 11-7, SR 15-18, AB 2013-07, and/or equivalent frameworks is preferred. Expert proficiency in languages for data manipulation and statistical analysis (e.g. Python, R, SQL, MATLAB, SAS). Proven leadership abilities with experience in managing and leading teams, including talent development and performance management. Ability to lead complex modeling projects efficiently and accurately under various conditions such as tight time frames, using alternative toolsets, independently, collaboratives, etc. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to critically evaluate complex models and identify potential risks. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and with all levels of Bank staff, senior management, the Board of Directors, and regulatory examiners. Professional certifications such as FRM (Financial Risk Manager) or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) are desirable. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
