Research Assistant/Technician position in Neuroimaging Lab at UTSW

A Research Assistant/Technician position is available in the neuroimaging laboratory of Dr. Nan Li (LNAB), at the Advanced Imaging Research Center (AIRC), the Department of Neuroscience and the O’Donnel Brain Institute at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW). The LNAB focuses on developing novel whole-brain fMRI methods to integrate molecular and system neuroscience and solve brain science problems. Particularly, we are interested in understanding the neural mechanisms of reward, learning, and memory in rodents’ brains. Our work is supported by the UT Southwestern Endowed Scholar Award, the UT STARs Award, the Brain and Behavioral Research Foundation, the Welch Foundation, and the King’s Foundation. Job Summary - The Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting and assisting in in vivo small animal experiments under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or a senior researcher in the lab. Efficient organizational skills, attention to detail, accurate record-keeping, and strong communication skills are required. In addition to performing experiments, the research assistant will also be responsible for general lab maintenance, including ordering and inventory, preparing standard reagents, maintaining lab protocols and safety records, etc. This position is an ideal opportunity for a recent post-bachelor interested in preparing for graduate or medical school. Experience and Education – Bachelor's degree (or above) with major coursework in the field of assignment. Laboratory experience with rodent handling/surgery, animal behavioral training, as well as basic computer skills are preferred. Job Duties § Perform stereotaxic surgeries in rats and mice, including intracranial injection and fiber/electrode/cannula implantation for brain stimulation/recording/imaging.§ Train animals to perform behavioral tasks.§ Prepare and assist with experiments on anesthetized and awake animals and postmortem immunostaining. Perform literature reviews to remain up-to-date on new methods and protocols.§ Analyze and assist in interpreting research outcomes.Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
