Non Instructional/Support Services Job Number 460029XXXX Start Date Open Date 04/04/2024 Closing Date 07/05/2024 Summary: The Bilingual EL (English Learner) Family Advocate (FA) in collaboration with Learning & Language Acquisition staff to provide intensive reach to parents and families of English Learner students at home, in the community, and at school. This supplemental position will provide targeted family and community engagement for the English Learner student population, serving to enhance communication and understanding between families of English Learner students and schools and expand information regarding school and/or district expectations to; assisting with families' requests or concerns; and making referral to other community agencies. These supports will provide parent engagement to lead to the English Learner student academic success. Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.) Works with all school personnel to promote an understanding of the value of parent/school partnerships and assists them with building effective partnerships with EL families Engages EL parents and families in the development and understanding of the Title III parent and family engagement guidance and Title III Plan, home/school compacts and the School Improvement Plan (SIP) Provides materials, activities and training to EL parents and families to help them effectively support their children at home and at school Helps parents and families understand curriculum standards and assessments as related to English Learner Education. Collaborates with the principal/school leaders and LLA department to organize and conduct the required parent meetings to inform parents. Participates in the school's School Leadership Team (SLT) Organizes a flexible number of curriculum-based programs and activities for EL family engagement (quarterly) Coordinates school-based activities with other district programs and initiatives Communicates with EL parents and families through a variety of means (community and school-based meetings, school website, flyers, etc.) to ensure EL parents and families are informed of opportunities to engage with their child's school Provides opportunities for EL parents and family members to volunteer, participate in and observe classroom activities Conducts or assists with home visits to support student attendance and resolution of home/school conflicts Performs related duties as assigned Education and Experience: Minimum Two years of higher education or an Associate degree from an accredited institution of higher learning with an emphasis on Education, Sociology or Psychology and Two years of successful experience in a related professional or educational setting OR Five years of successful experience in a related professional or educational setting Desirable Additional specialized training or education in working with students and families Experience training adults on effective engagement strategies Licensing / Certification Requirements: N/A Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: Understanding of curriculum and assessments Ability to collect, synthesize and understand different types of student data (performance, attendance and discipline) Ability to work collaboratively within the school and with individual community-based stakeholder groups (networking) Ability to work independently and to contribute as a team leader Ability to model, implement and monitor best family engagement strategies Ability to value diversity and work with people from different backgrounds Ability to develop programs to meet the needs of economically, linguistically and culturally diverse families Proficiency in the use of Microsoft and Apple hardware, software and Apps Strong written and verbal communication skills # of Jobs 1.00 Salary: From 18.20 Teacher Scale N Minimum Educational Requirements Associate Degree Term 10 Month Additional Job Information Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. It requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing. The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations and repetitive motor coordination. The work rarely requires one to exert physical effort (up to 20 pounds) or to work with biohazards or risks. The work requires activities frequently involving driving automotive equipment.
