Position summary: The Director of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) plays a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of a high-quality EMS education program that prepares students for successful careers in emergency medical services. The Director of EMS at Kilgore College is responsible for teaching, overseeing the development, implementation, and management of the EMS program. Courses taught may include online and/or dual-credit classes. This role ensures that the program meets all regulatory requirements and provides high-quality education and training to students pursuing careers in emergency medical services. The Director of EMS will work closely with faculty, staff, industry partners, and regulatory bodies to ensure the program’s success and continuous improvement. Position responsibilities: Coordinate faculty and staff with the necessary qualifications to perform the functions identified in documented job descriptions and to achieve the program’s stated goals and outcomes. The PD shall ensure compliance with applicable accreditation, certification, licensing, health, and safety requirements. Faculty and staff supervision and evaluation. Continuous quality review and improvement of the educational program. Academic oversight, including curriculum planning and development. Develop and manage the EMS program budget, ensuring efficient use of resources. Orientation/training of clinical preceptors. Maintain and continually develop the program Advisory Committee. Student recruitment and retention. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Position Requirements: At a minimum, Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education. Five (5) years of EMS experience. Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role. Knowledge about the current versions of the National EMS Scope of Practice and National EMS Standards and evidenced-informed clinical practice. Current certification or licensure from the Texas Department of State Health Services as a Paramedic. Knowledge of course content, practical skills, effective teaching strategies specific to assigned topics, and student evaluation/counseling methods. Be capable of teaching at the EMS provider level being taught meeting the learning needs of the students, meeting the teaching needs of the content material, and developing/assessing/ remediating student performance. Experience in the delivery of prehospital emergency care. Preferred Qualifications: Successful college teaching experience utilizing instructional technologies, including computers, internet resources, and other appropriate media in instruction. It is preferred that the program director’s degree be in a health-related profession, EMS, or education. Licensed as Paramedic Coordinator with the Texas Department of State Health Services. Supervisory Responsibilities: 1 Full-Time Direct Reports 5 Part-Time Direct Reports Physical Demands and Work Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office and classroom environment. No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. No or very limited exposure to physical risk. Safety: Provide resources for safe operation of units. Create and support workplace safety. Salary & Benefits: 36-hour work week for a healthy work life balance as well generous paid leave time. Health, life, and income protection insurance are provided. An excellent retirement program through the Teacher Retirement System or Optional Retirement Plan ‘ORP’ for full time faculty. Full Time employees have free use of the college’s recreational/fitness facilities Tuition scholarships are for the employee and dependent children. Compensation for this 12-month position is based on years of teaching at institutions of higher education, and highest level of education. Base pay for no experience ranges from $65,280 for a Bachelor's degree to $78,880 for a doctorate. A Director's stipend is also provided. Overload and summer classes are paid separately. Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program. As a result, employees/retirees of the college are subject to the federal Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and possibly the Government Pension Offset (GPO) laws.
