SUMMARY OF POSITION: Ensure that best educational practices are in place to best serve each student by developing and implementing special education programming based on individual student’s needs as determined by the IEP. Responsibilities: Direct Skills Instruction Create, implement and oversee curriculum used for direct instruction of skills based on individualized student need Teach and remediate specific skills (in all content areas) based on areas identified in the student’s Individual Education Plan Curriculum Development Develop and implement individualized direct instruction curriculum (educational skills time) based on each student’s needs as determined by IEP (Individualized Education Plan). Develop and implement curriculum in all content levels for a variety of grade levels as needed for students participating in 1:1 academics. Special Education Case Management Develop and implement IEP goals in collaboration with individual student teams consisting of: student, family, sending school, Ch.O.I.C.E. clinicians, and other team members as necessary. Monitor IEP goals and record progress. Attend team meetings (trimonthly/student) to talk about IEP, educational needs, progress, and/or other educational issues pertinent to students as needed. Maintain positive relationships and active participation with sending schools. Program Development Participate in planning, organizing, and developing strategies & systems in collaboration with the Director, CYFS Special Ed Coordinator, Educational Coordinator, and MS Program Coordinator to help maintain and/or implement necessary changes to programming. Assessment Assess and monitor student’s needs and progress. Provide written assessment of new student’s educational skills and needs at 6 week and 10 week time period. Provide & score narratives at the end of each unit describing student’s progress. Provide recommendations and/or perform testing based on student needs. Consultation/Supervision Provide educational updates and trainings to all staff regarding specific educational disabilities. Co-lead teacher’s meetings every other week. Support the Director in coordination of student intakes. Participate in a variety of staff meetings: all staff meeting, special ed meeting , teacher ’s meeting, and others as necessary/needed. Provide consultation services to outside agencies as well as educational consultation and planning support for milieu groups. Give staff direct feedback gathered from observations. Work with supervisors to insure staff can provide accommodations mandated by IEP. Oversee implementation of direct skills instruction by other teachers and staff. Other Willingness to use personal vehicle for work related business to include attending meetings and client transport on an as needed basis. Follow and implement all program and agency policies and procedures. Willingness to learn de-escalation and passive restraint techniques. Ability to restrain youth who are a danger to self or others. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds. Perform other duties as assigned. Maintain special education licensure per AOE requirements QUALIFICATIONS : Master’s degree preferred, endorsement (license) in Special Education, with minimum 3 years experience working with students with emotional behavioral disabilities and other learning disabilities, extensive experience in creating curriculum, accommodating curriculum and direct skills instruction in a variety of content areas and grade levels. Knowledge of various assessments (Ex: Woodcock Johnson) and experience administering test materials. Special Education endorsement for grades K-21 preferred. Program development experience. Teacher’s meeting Vermont’s Highly Qualified standard preferred. Additional Requirements: Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Computer literacy necessary. Knowledge of FERPA and HIPAA requirements and clerical experience a plus. Needs excellent organization and time management skills. Ability to interact well with parents, school staff, WCMHS staff, and other professionals. Valid driver’s license, excellent driving record, and access to a safe, reliable, insured vehicle is required. Powered by JazzHR
