Full Time.  Requires Doctoral degree (PhD) (or foreign equivalent degree) in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a closely related degree with 2 years of experience in the job offered, Analytical Materials Chemist, Research Associate and/or any related occupation utilizing materials analysis. Must have 2 years of experience with the following skills or tools: Gas Chromatography (GC-MS, GC-FID and GC-TCD) and ICP-MS; Thermal Analysis (TGA and DSC); Electron microscopic analysis (SEM-EDS); FTIR spectroscopy; and XRD. Formulate analytical plans to economically and rapidly solve complex materials problems faced by American manufacturers and other materials users. Help manufacturers and materials users to specify the materials properties they need for their applications. Use Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy to determine the composition of complex organic chemical mixtures in solids, liquids, and vapors. Utilize Thermal Analysis techniques (TGA, DSC, TMA) to determine the thermal properties of organic and inorganic solid and liquid materials. Use Electron Microscopic Analysis to produce high resolution images of surfaces and particles and EDS x-ray emission spectroscopy to determine the elemental composition of microscopic areas. Outsource Ion-Coupled Plasma Mass Spectroscopy analysis. Utilize X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy to determine the elemental composition and chemical bond nature of the immediate surface of solid materials, use X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry to determine the elemental composition of solid and liquid materials, and use X-ray Diffraction to identify chemical phases by their crystal structure. Use FTIR Infrared Spectroscopy to identify organic solid and liquid materials, the decomposition and aging properties, detect impurities, and identify additives to them. Submit manuscripts to scientific journals of materials research results and write educational materials about materials analysis and properties for scientists.
