But unfortunately many areas in Charleston are known as 10% regions, which means that less than 10% of the people who live in Charleston are associated with an evangelical community church. So God is set on seeing every man, woman, and child have multiple opportunities to see, hear, and respond to the gospel. Opportunities for the people in our city to be redeemed through the church in Charleston.Journey Church was birthed out of the same passion to see this city and its people redeemed and in a relationship with Jesus Christ. Twelve adults and eight children partnered with the Journey Church to plant this church that is dedicated to scattering missionaries across the city and planting churches throughout the world. These twelve adults and these eight children moved down from Mount Washington, Kentucky–sent from a church in Mount Washington–to see this kind of church, a unique church planted in the city, for the city, so that God’s people might be redeemed to Himself. These adults and children began to rally around this unique vision, and this unique vision began to rally new people to the cause.The church that started in a living room began to quickly expand, which challenged them for the first time: would they be a church that exists for themselves? Or would they be the type of church that exists so that people who are not yet with them and not yet with God would have the opportunity to be in community with them and with God?Through growth, relocations, and many more changes have come new and exciting challenges. But what the church has never turned away from is their mission: that they would make sure that every man, woman, and child would have multiple opportunities to see, hear, and respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ.Journey Church wants to be a church that equips and sends missionary disciples all across their city, sees families redeemed, and sees churches planted.This is who Journey Church is. About the Spiritual Formation Pastor: The Spiritual Formation Pastor will guide and equip the Journey family to become whole-hearted disciples who practice the way of Jesus. He will develop a holistic journey so that followers of Jesus can carry out the vision and mission of Journey Church through praying and modeling Jesus’ way. This will be done in partnership with the lead pastor, elders, and staff to innovate and develop ministries that are scalable and sustainable to our growing church. This position has a pathway to eldership. The Spiritual Formation Pastor's Responsibilities Include: Oversee Spiritual Formation Journey for Every Man, Woman, and Child Lead by example as a wholehearted disciple who loves God and neighbor.Provide spiritual formation paths that collaborate with all ministry areas.Develop content so that teaching/training can be reproduced by other leaders.Create and develop teams that empower everyone to be formed into the image of Jesus.Preach and teach in multiple environments, including Sunday Worship Gatherings.Encourage and assimilate new families into the life and mission of the church and discipleship systems, including the Newcomers Lunch & Partnership classes.Create and implement an annual strategic plan (goals, budget, events) that is Spirit-prompted and aligns with our vision, philosophy, capacity, and season of life.Cultivate and champion a culture of spiritual formation.Empower and equip leaders to teach the Journey family a worship lifestyle. Journey Group Leaders Provide regular communication to, and training for, Group Leaders.Empower Group leaders to practice the way of Jesus with their Group.Cultivate a culture of partnership among Group Leaders and Group Coaches.Cultivate an environment of multiplication and spiritual formation. Journey Men and Women Develop teams of teachers and leaders with the aim of spiritually formed disciples.Write, co-write, or select curriculum for teachers and leaders.Empower leaders to co-labor with others to cultivate a team mentality.Oversee Journey Young Adult ministry and equip leaders. Journey Kids and Journey Youth Ministry Equip parents and adult family members to be their kids main rabbi/teacher.Oversee selection of material and content being taught to Journey Kids and Journey Youth.Foster formation pathways for Journey Kids and Journey Youth. Build a Culture of Spiritual Formation and Evangelism Cultivate a culture of hospitable evangelism that is formed in the home.Ensure all ministries value evangelism as a necessary component of our formation.Equip leaders to share the gospel that adapts to our cultural moment.Cultivate a “go and replicate” environment, not just “come and consume”.Develop strategies for demonstration of the Gospel that leads to proclamation.Provide forums that train partners in apologetics to a growing post-modern South. What You Bring: The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Spiritual Formation Pastor: Education & Experience M.Div (preferred) or equivalent work experience in a related field2+ years of experience in spiritual formation ministries Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent verbal and written communicator: one-on-one and to the entire churchTrack record of identifying, developing, and sending out leadersAbility to lead others to lead, and equip others to equip (Eph 4:11; 2 Tim 2:2)Able to care for/counsel the whole person from the whole counsel of ScriptureFocuses on the tasks at hand and efficient follow-throughProficient in organization and building of systemsProficient in G-Suite and Planning Center productsAble to oversee and provide leadership for multiple teams/ministries Personal Characteristics & Qualifications Fulfill the character qualifications of an elder described in 1 Tim. 3 and Titus 1Humble, vulnerable, teachable, and team-orientedSelf-starter and anticipates needs without oversightServant-hearted leadership who celebrates the advancement of others in leadershipTakes initiative, and innovates, to fulfill the musts of discipleship and evangelismAdherence to Journey Church’s Statement of Faith and By-laws What it's Like to Live in Ladson, SC: Families looking for a vibrant and family-friendly community in the heart of the Charleston area will find the Ladson, Summerville, and Goose Creek areas of Charleston an ideal destination.
