We attract and retain premier medical professionals with competitive compensation, benefits, and a nurturing work atmosphere that unites passion and purpose.Learn more about us: https://dhip.dukehealth.org/about-us JOB LOCATION Dermatology of South Durham - 234 Crooked Creek Pkwy JOB SUMMARY We are seeking a Medical Assistant, Certified to be an integral member of the healthcare team and provide direct and indirect care to patients. $5,000 Commitment Bonus Eligible | Paid out in 2 equal installments over 12 months in 6-month increments (6 months and 12 months). **Only new hires who have not worked for Duke University Health System in the past 12 months (at the time of offer) are eligible to receive the Commitment bonus.** JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Perform routine administrative and patient care supportive duties in a Health System medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensure office runs smoothly. Administrative duties may include but not limited to the following: Answer telephones Greet patients Update and file patient medical records Fill out insurance forms Handle correspondence Schedule appointments Arrange for hospital admissions Arrange for laboratory services Handle billing and bookkeeping Perform other administrative duties as directed Clinic Duties may include but not limited to the following: Taking medical histories and recording vital signs Explaining treatment procedures to patients Preparing patients for examinations and procedures Assisting the physician during the examination and procedures Collect and prepare laboratory specimens Perform basic laboratory tests on the premises Dispose of contaminated supplies Sterilize medical instruments. Promote patient/family understanding of the educational content and his/her involvement in the plan of care, and document in patient record. Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician Authorize drug refills as directed Telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy Draw blood Prepare patients for x-rays, tests and procedures. Take electrocardiograms Remove sutures/ staples. Change sterile and non-sterile dressings. Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the physician. JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required. Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required. BLS required Level I -- No experience required. Level II -- 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting.
