Job DescriptionSUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE:The DBI team specializes in the evaluation of damaged structures. DBI's construction experts provide independent recommendations and analysis to clients in the insurance and legal industry. In a complex industry, the company's mission is to bring clarity to every client served by DBI.As a result of significant recent growth of the Company, the Accounting Director will be responsible for building out the accounting department including designing and implementing processes and controls, GAAP and management reporting, system implementation and migration, and recruiting accounting personnel as need be. The Accounting Director oversees the recording of all accounting activity into the company's books, regularly reviewing, reconciling, and reporting both to management and to DBI's parent company, Cor Partners. Reporting is done on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. In addition, assist in managing Accounts Payable, Treasury reporting, credit card management, and serve as the liaison for the annual company audit and tax filings.A successful candidate will be confident and assertive, have a strong knowledge of accounting processes and US GAAP, will leverage analytical skills and project management expertise to drive successful outcomes, can interact with or lead cross-functional teams, and thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, results-oriented environment. This position has matrix reporting responsibilities with day-to-day reporting to the DBI Director of Finance & Operations and indirectly to the Cor Partners Finance and Accounting team. This position will work closely with the DBI and Cor Partners finance directors, DBI billing and collections teams, and DBI senior leadership.PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: * Responsible for monthly close processes and controls over payroll, bank, work in process, accounts receivable, accounts payable, accruals and GAAP entries. * Monthly review of all balance sheet accounts and related reconciliations. * Monthly financial results reporting to DBI Sr Leadership and Cor Partners. * Preparation of actual to budget variance analysis and reporting. * Preparation of balance sheets, P&L, and other reports as needed. * Oversight of Accounts Payable processes. * Manage inter-company accounting and communications. * Preparation of semi-annual bonus calculations and accrued bonus allocations. * Assess, recommend, and implement accounting, reporting and general business processes improvements as well as related financial and other IT systems. * Manage external audit communications and document requests. * Preparation of income tax documentation provided to parent company. * Oversee state and local tax compliance, reporting and payment remittance. * Assist as necessary with the annual budgeting process, actuals to budget variance analysis, and forecast updates and variance analysis. * Assist in preparation of materials for annual insurance renewals, as needed. * Maintain confidentiality of all sensitive company information, including payroll records, earnings, and business processes.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting. CPA or MBA highly preferred. * At least seven years of relevant finance and accounting experience including financial close processes, accounting process design, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting, implementation of new technology, and demonstrated understanding of process improvement. * Ideally, a mix of public and private experience. * Deep knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ("GAAP"). * Demonstrated experience in a leadership capacity within a finance & accounting function.SKILLS AND ABILITIES * Strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer service skills. * Ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external resources. * Experience working with QuickBooks, NetSuite, or other ERP platforms as well as CRM platforms such as OneStream or Hyperion HFM. * Intermediate to advanced Microsoft excel, including Pivot Tables, conditional formatting, V Lookup, etc. * Ability to identify issues and suggest innovative solutions. * Self-directed with the ability to be an effective team leader and maintain a professional demeanor. * Proven organizational skills with exemplary time management, and ability to manage multiple priorities, execute tasks, as well as meet deadlines. * Technically astute and strategic in thinking. * Comfortable working in a fast-paced office setting. * Ability to adapt to new software, including billing and project management database programs.WORKING CONDITIONS:This position will work full time from DBI's recently renovated headquarters in NYC. May require occasional late night or weekend work. The incumbent will collaborate closely with the Director of Finance & Operations as well as other team members across the Finance & Accounting team, Parent Company F&A team, Operations team and on occasion directly with Managing Partners & Directors of the business.PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:Work requires light lifting (10 - 20 lbs.), standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, reaching, fingering (keyboarding) and repetitive hand motion, grasping, talking, and hearing at normal speaking levels. Work requires visual acuity to read and prepare data and figures, transcribe words and numbers, view information on a computer terminal, read, operate office machines, and determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work.
