Job Summary As a key contributor to system planning, provide engineering expertise for planning, design, operation and maintenance of the gas distribution and transmission systems. Understand and apply fundamental engineering principles, industry knowledge and regulatory standards to develop engineered solutions and recommendations to enhance the safety and reliability of the natural gas transmission and delivery systems, including gate and regulator stations. Responsibilities Working under the direction of Senior and Lead Engineers, perform hydraulic analyses and make recommendations for distribution and transmission system infrastructure improvements to address leak prone main replacement, public right-of-way conflict resolution, system capacity, safety and reliability projects. Interface with and support Gas Design and Gas Operations to troubleshoot and resolve short and long term issues within the gas system. Support and develop hydraulic modeling studies; write technical engineering reports to summarize findings and justify capital investments. Support Regulator Station Program by maintaining and updating gate station, regulator station and primary valve records; evaluate stations and develop concept level station improvement plans including the specification of station equipment. Interface with and provide engineering and system planning support with Gas Operations, Economic Development, Gas Supply, Gas Control, Customer Service, developers, municipalities and government agencies. Skills and Requirements Technical Skills/Competencies Theoretical Engineering knowledge - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Analytic, modeling & Calculation, understanding the business model; Global View of the Business (Values cross-functional collaboration, understands importance of growing knowledge and developing relationships and links across the organization) Practical engineering experience/application - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Construction, (e.g. field experience, standardization "Perform economic analyses of engineering alternatives, develop business cases and defend in front of stakeholders.") Engineering documentation - Ability to adequately document and interpret engineering documentation Ability to review and approve engineering work done by others to ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment - Local, State and Federal Regulatory Standards and requirements Education & Experience Required: Bachelor of Science Degree or Engineering Technology Degree in Mechanical, Civil or Electrical Engineering. Minimum 2 - 5 years of technical experience in gas engineering and/or related field Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) desirable. Knowledge and experience in gas engineering and design, national and state code requirements and standards, and compliance requirements associated with API, ASTM , ASME, ANSI, 49 CFR Part 191 & Part 192, NYS Title 16 Chapter III and ISO 9001 desirable.
