We're looking for a Senior Cryogenic Mechnical Engineer.Microsoft is researching the future of Quantum Computing, including theory, hardware, and software. As a part of this effort the Quantum Mechanical Engineering team is developing cryogenic refrigerator architecture to enable the advancement of Quantum Computing. Qualifications: Required/Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field AND 6+ years experience in industry or in a research and development environment OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field AND 4+ years experience in industry or in a research and development environment OR Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or related field AND 1+ year(s) experience in industry or in a research and development environment, could include completion of a post-doctoral research position OR equivalent experience. 4+ years of relevant experience in all of the following areas: Hands-on systems experience and expertise in design, fabrication, installation, commissioning and operating of 4K and mK cryogenic refrigerators. 3D CAD experience, Creo and/or SolidWorks. Designing for manufacturability, and installing, of ultr-high vacuum (UHV) systems and equipment. Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Additional or Preferred Qualification Engineering project management and best practices. Analytical problem solving and system troubleshooting best practices. Analytical techniques including root cause analysis, basic structural, thermal, stress, machine design. Familiar with: Liquefier design, maintenance, and operation. Dilution refrigerator design, maintenance, and operation. COMSOL/Ansys Helium leak Checking and debug. Residual Gas Analyzers. Vacuum pump cart with molecular turbo. Transfer dewars. General machine shop tools (Mil, Lathe, Hand tools...etc). Quantum Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
