Job Description Position Summary The Training & Development Manager will manage a portfolio of work that aims to provide leadership in engagement practices and capacity building through training and development for organizations, community leaders, and residents. Additionally, the manager creates a training portfolio that offers opportunities for sharing best practices in use of engagement systems for other city staff. Supporting the Director of Partnerships & Capacity-building, the manager will also collaborate with the Partnerships & Strategic Support Manager on key initiatives as well as with the Racial Equity vertical on organizational priorities. Essential Functions In this role, you will: Lead implementation of training & development strategy and management of existing and new trainings around the civic engagement and volunteer support portfolios. Manage the development of the Civic Engagement Academy and Volunteer Support Program training curriculum using the Equitable Community Toolkit as a framework. Standardize training processes and logistics across audiences and content areas Audit existing trainings, using tools to bring them up to equitable engagement standards Create a standard system for regular process improvement, including audience evaluation and implementing feedback Lead the development of a training schedule and process for requested trainings Manage training event special projects, like Civic Engagement Conference and requested CEA training Create a train the trainer program that serves as a pipeline for expanding the training team and deepening training best practices Cultivate, grow, and support a community of equitable community engagement practitioners. Provide strategic vision for the Civic Engagement Academy (CEA), Volunteer Support Program and support the Equitable Engagement Collaborative (EEC) and AmeriCorps National Service Task Force as needed Develop relationships and partnerships that support the objectives to enhance equitable engagement practices across our audiences Work with the CEO data team to set a strategy for training and best practices for city staff utilization of VAN, Peerly, Volunteer Portal, and other engagement systems. Manage, support and build capacity of the Training Coordinator. Set the strategy for outreach for trainings and convening spaces Manage communication with internal and external partners Develop and manage outreach strategy for trainings Other relevant duties as assigned Other duties as assigned Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Three to five years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience managing equity-centered culture change projects in complex community-based or institutional organizations. Three to five years of experience with training or community engagement experience. Action oriented; an individual not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get into the details of the operation. Ability to operationalize a shared vision Experience facilitator or trainer Excellent time management skills with capacity to work simultaneously on multiple tasks and projects and deliver on deadline. Comfort working with data and digital systems. Preferred but not required: Bilingual (Spanish and/or Mandarin Chinese preferred) Experience with community-based or non-profit engagement Experience managing a repository of guides, tools, templates to advance equitable practices. Qualifications 3-5 years experience in project/program management 3-5 years experience with developing training content and facilitations Experience, familiarity and comfort with starting new projects/initiatives Experience launching and managing new programs Supervisory Responsibilities Responsible for the supervision of the Training Coordinator and potential VISTA, intern or temporary staff.
