Scope of High School Ministry Director Position The High School Ministry Director position at Westwood Church is a full-time position responsible for leading Westwood’s High School Ministry (HSM) by creating a collaborative and relationally-driven atmosphere that helps cultivate life-long discipleship to Jesus. In addition to directly leading the regular rhythms of HSM programming, the primary focus areas will be: developing a team of volunteer HSM leaders, encouraging and equipping parents to actively engage their students’ spiritual development, cultivating a strong partnership with our Middle School Ministry, and creating opportunities for mentoring relationships with the wider church. The Director will work in close partnership with the Middle School Ministry Director, and under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Pastor. Principle Responsibilities Lead a relationally-driven discipleship and outreach ministry to high school students through: Directly leading the HSM to and with high school students (Sunday School, Sunday night events, Wednesday night large and small group programming, special trips, events, and fundraisers, connections with students outside of programming, etc.) Partnering with and equipping parents to take a primary role in students’ spiritual formation Cultivating a strong partnership with Westwood’s Middle School Ministry Leading and equipping adult volunteer ministry team for HSM Creating opportunities for mentoring relationships with the wider community of faith at Westwood Collaborating with the staff team of Westwood Church to pursue our shared mission Experience and Educational Expectation The ideal candidate for our High School Ministry Director position is a passionate, self-motivated, and dedicated follower of Christ with excellent relational and communication skills, formal youth ministry training, and some real-life experience leading a high school student ministry. However, with significant youth ministry experience in the past and a strong sense of calling and giftedness for the task, candidates without formal youth ministry training (i.e. someone with commensurate training such as in education but with additional theological development) will be considered. The HSM Director must display a natural giftedness for connecting with high school students relationally and the ability to lead them toward Jesus in a compelling way. He or she should also be able to articulate and show evidence of an authentic and ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ, personally – full of its ups and downs, successes and failures. Care & Accountability The High School Ministry Director will be directly under the care and accountability of the Senior Pastor and also under the ultimate care and accountability of the Executive Committee of Westwood Church as needed.
