Job Description:Under the supervision of the Chair of the Composition Department at Berklee College of Music, the Composition Department Coordinator is responsible for a number of the daily operations of the department. The Department Coordinator regularly interacts with students to support their student experience, works closely with the Chair and Assistant Chair on department business, and assists with visiting artists and events. Essential duties and responsibilities: Daily Operations : The Composition Department Coordinator will provide administrative support to maintain and advance daily operations, student support during the registration period, delivery of departmental communications, and management of calendars and events; Assist with answering general in-person, phone, and email inquiries from students about the department and its programs, and maintain helpful communication with the Composition Faculty, and the Staff throughout Berklee. Composition Major and Conducting Minor Support : Assist with administrative processes that supports student success in the Composition major, including: Organize and manage readings, visiting artists, masterclasses, department concerts, and other internal events. Organize and maintain student submissions for departmental awards, activities, and surveys; Create a database to organize and publicize alumni activities. Tonal Harmony, Counterpoint and Conducting Core Support : Assist with administrative processes that supports every Berklee College student in their Tonal Harmony, Counterpoint and Conducting core classes, including: Support the CBX Placement by Exam assessment and organization; Maintain, update, and distribute the departmental exams and syllabi for courses. Departmental Records : Assist the Chair in keeping departmental records, take minutes at meetings, and gather and organize information and data to facilitate the creation of departmental reports. : Develop and maintain the social media platforms, composition newsletter and departmental web page. Manage Student Employee: Hire and manage student employees for department social media and fixed media creation as available. Extracurricular Events : Coordinate logistical details for visiting artists and other departmental events including scheduling, room reservations, presentation technology needs, and catering. Provide day-of event support as needed. Excellent interpersonal skills to assist students, faculty, chairs, and visiting artists with the necessary discretion to work with confidential information. Ability to listen and communicate effectively with a large and diverse student population. Self-reliance and self-motivation, with a strong ability to take direction and carry out projects responsibility without direct supervision. Strong organizational and time management skills. General office administrative skills, including meeting scheduling, event planning, document creation, and note-taking. The ability to streamline workflow. Required Experience : 1 - 3 years of administrative experience in music/arts; with a preference for experience in higher education. Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work experience. High-level proficiency with office software including Google Suite and macOS computer applications, focusing on spreadsheets, word processing, and database management. User experience with website content management systems and current social media platforms. Knowledge of basic image and video editing. Knowledge of contemporary music, and experience in music composition or performance is preferred.
