Heritage Baptist Church (Monroe, MI) Since January 2021, HBC has seen significant growth, growing from an average attendance of 50 in January 2021 to over 150, with over 50 people taking the next step of baptism in that time. Heritage Kids was relaunched in the spring of 2021 with 4 kids and today ministers to 25 every week. Our student ministries have a dozen core students primarily in middle and early high school. Our church is becoming multi-generational with the fastest growth group being young families with parents typically in their 30s and 40s with children at home. About half of our families live in or near Monroe while the other half drive from more rural parts of Monroe County. With a building that is less than 10 years old and situated on over 20 acres, we are praying and trusting the Lord for future growth.HBC is a growing multi-generational body of believers who truly see themselves as a family. At the heart of this growth is God’s word being preached and lived out in the hearts of the people at Heritage. We work together in love to serve God, serve each other, and serve our community. NextGen Pastor (Associate Pastor) The Next Generation Pastor will provide leadership to various volunteers and ministry teams from newborns to young adults. He must have a strong passion for younger generations yet be able to engage with all age groups. His age is not as important as his ability to lead teams effectively and find ways to provide multi-generational influence for the next generation. He will be skilled at developing relationships with students in the church to effectively disciple them toward spiritual maturity and integrate them into the overall church community. He will be able to partner with parents to make disciples within the home.He must hold to an orthodox view of scripture as God-breathed. Being an intentional and purposeful disciple of Jesus himself, he will be able to lead others in a deepening relationship with Jesus. He must be doctrinally aligned with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. He will give evidence of a spiritually balanced life and possess a strong work ethic and personal integrity. Job Description The Next Generation Pastor will provide leadership to the various volunteers and ministry teams ministering to newborns to young adults. He will carry out the church's mission and vision, being strategically minded, administratively skilled, and intentional with recruiting and development of teams within the scope of the next generation. They will also possess a pastoral heart that can lead volunteers, parents, and kids/students in a relational ministry style as they serve as the team leader in these areas. During a normal week, the individual should plan to spend the majority of their week investing in next-generation ministries with other duties to be assigned based on needs, gifting, and experience.Detailed Job DescriptionThe following defines the specific functions and goals relating to making disciples in the next generation: Engage Every Age Group Find ways to provide multi-generational influence for the next generation Develop Ministry Teams Recruit and develop team members to meet the needs of children, students, and young adults within the body of the church Support Ministry Ensure that teams have the resources necessary to effectively carry out their mission Partner with Parents Equip families to make disciples within the home Promote Involvement in the Church Create consistent opportunities for service within the church body for the next generation including but not limited to supporting worship services, accomplishing service projects for shut-ins and widows, participating in community outreach The following defines the general pastoral functions performed by an Associate Pastor: Support the Senior Pastor in the overall vision casting and leadership of the church’s teaching Work with the Senior Pastor to ensure weekend services are planned and executed Communication skills to effectively preach approximately once per quarter Know the congregation by showing intense interest in them Responsible for tracking the spiritual growth and progress of members in ministry areas May perform other duties as assigned Personal Qualifications Possesses personality, temperament, and interpersonal skills to relate and serve effectively within a multi-generational congregation setting Exhibit evidence of Christian character and servant leadership as stated in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4 in the work environment as well as in-home/family setting Give evidence of a spiritually balanced life (prayer, Bible study, rest, worship, financial stewardship) Doctrinally aligned with the Baptist Faith and Message (2000), HBC’s Statement of Faith, doctrinal positions, mission, and core values Give evidence of a strong work ethic and personal integrity Education & Skills Knowledge and ability to use the Bible to guide a new disciple to ongoing spiritual maturity Bachelor's Degree or its experiential equivalent. (Preferably from a Christian college or university aligned with the Southern Baptist Convention with emphasis in Theology or Student Ministry) A relevant Seminary/Graduate Degree is helpful but not required. Previous experience in Youth/Student or Children's Ministries (paid or volunteer) Hours & Benefits The Associate Pastor will be classified as a full-time, exempt employee. Benefits offered will be consistent with the current policy for insurance, paid time off (PTO), and holidays. This is a minimum 40-hour-per-week position.
