Our Small Commercial Underwriting team is currently seeking a Sr Portfolio Underwriter in the Pacific region. This is a full time, exempt role. This position is eligible for a fully remote work arrangement or a hybrid arrangement to Santa Ana, CA or Roseville, CA. POSITION OVERVIEW: Small Commercial Senior Portfolio Underwriters are responsible for renewal underwriting and retention on accounts handled by the Renewal Center for Commercial Lines business. During the course of executing on this responsibility, the Senior Portfolio Underwriter is expected to partner with Field Underwriters, Small Commercial Sales Managers, RSDs and RVPs as well as investigate and promote franchise value opportunities including but not limited to cross sell and up sell for renewal accounts handled. They are also expected to engage in producer management of assigned agency plant as necessary and appropriate and act as the owner of individual renewal portfolio (book and agency) profit and loss. The Senior Portfolio Underwriter should work closely with their Underwriting Technician partner to ensure all policies are underwritten in the most efficient and effective manner while meeting service standards and performance goals. IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL: Underwrite and manage CL renewal business handled by the Renewal Center for respective agency assignments. Also responsible for individually underwriting and servicing the non-bypass accounts in their assigned portfolio, including adequately pricing the exposures to attain desired profit returns. Be responsible for contributing to target Center profit and loss metrics for assigned portfolio. Contribute to portfolio mix in accordance with corporate and Center mix targets. Handle endorsements on Renewal Center book of business that fall outside of the endorsement authority letter of Rating or Renewal Center UTs. Handle cancellations on Renewal Center book of business that fall outside of the scope of Renewal Center UTs. Effectively deliver renewal quotes at appropriate threshold in a professional manner, including quote proposals, cross sells, up sells, and segment expertise awareness as appropriate. Provide product knowledge transfer to agents so they can effectively sell Hanover as the "go to" market for their customers. Operate within the scope of assigned authority Coordinate with New Business UWs and SCSMs to present a united front on account/agency strategies and decisions. Participate in agency reviews, agency planning and agency profiling. WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY: Bachelor's degree preferred and 3+ years of renewal underwriting experience Strong underwriting skill and coverage knowledge; ability to make underwriting decisions on POS and CPP accounts up to $50,000 premium size Ability to manage workload to meet goals and service standards, while following workflow standards Demonstrated commitment to service and partners; high level of responsiveness Able to build and maintain close working relationships with Agents, UTs, SCSMs, and New Business UWs, demonstrating strong relationship building, teamwork and collaboration skills Able to understand and execute to strategic priorities (Ex. mix targets, CAT strategy, pricing strategy, agent strategy, etc.) Knowledge of competition and current marketplace; apply to all aspects of performing the role This job posting provides cursory examples of some of the job duties associated with this position.
