Grammar School Counselor Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School seeks a counselor to work in our Grammar School division, serving students in Grades Pre-K through 5. The Grammar School Counselor works with school leaders to organize, oversee and provide a range of services to students and their families, and support teachers and other school faculty as appropriate to address student needs and ensure their academic success. Duties & Responsibilities: Offers short-term individual and/or group counseling for students in grades pre-k through 5, as needed. Teaches classes to support the social-emotional learning and general health and well-being of all students in the grammar school. Leads conversations and designs workshops on mental health and emotional wellness and helps facilitate discussions to strengthen the connection between home and school during scheduled meetings. Collaborates with the school nurse, deans, and administrators to ensure student health, wellness, and safety. Consults and collaborates with teachers and learning specialists to support the social-emotional growth and learning needs of children. Helps coordinate outside support services and maintains contact and communicates with outside providers and evaluators, including liaising with the Department of Education as needed. Available as a resource for families to support student’s social-emotional needs and provide guidance. Leverage assessments that measure progress towards academic and social standards Help complete necessary school wide duties for the successful and orderly functioning of the school (e.g., hallway supervision, arrival/departure transitions, field trips, etc.) Serves as a member of the student support team, working to identify and address learning and emotional/behavioral needs that interfere with academic achievement and social-emotional well-being. Participates as a member of the crisis team. Helps provide additional crisis intervention services for students and staff, including responding to current events that may have a significant impact on the community. Attend and participate in events outside of normal school hours (e.g., family nights, student performances, field trips, report card nights, Teacher - Parent Conferences, etc) Collaborate with teachers in planning grade level meetings, department meetings, staff meetings, and other professional development activities Manage administrative and appropriate direct-service elements of the referral process for social services and special education services including: Referring individuals and families to external resources and services Monitoring and facilitating the delivery of external resources and services Evaluating impact and quality of external resources and services Promotes wellness and resilience by reinforcing positive and direct communication styles, self-reflection practices, careful decision-making, collaborative problem solving, and emotion-focused coping techniques. Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues. Administering records, documentation, and other compliance activities. Any other duties as assigned by the Divisional Director Qualifications : Master’s degree in Social Work or School Counseling. Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a grammar/elementary school setting. Experience teaching and facilitating well-managed classes and discussions with grammar/elementary school students. Collaborative mindset and strong interpersonal skills. Belief in and alignment with Columbia Grammar’s core beliefs and educational philosophy Compensation The salary range for this position is $71,000.00 - $118,500.00 based on completed degree programs and years of experience. We also offer a generous compensation package.
