Addiction Prevention Coalition has an immediate opening for a Peer Specialist Trainer. This position is supported through grant funding with a focus on supporting the prevention, treatment and recovery of substance use disorder through peer support services, community engagement and trainings. This position will work with the APC staff to develop and provide mutually beneficial prevention and early intervention programs, use methods and instruments for collecting valid and reliable data, deliver effective substance misuse prevention education curriculum to students, plan and implement recovery support projects, report on program performance, and apply strategies to improve outcomes. Applicants must have a passion for the substance misuse field and basic knowledge of drugs and drug culture. Must be very comfortable working with students of all ages and interacting with different sectors of the community. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Participate as a team member in the formulation of programs and/or agency planning, and in the coordination and implementation of peer services. Connect with stakeholders from various sectors of the community to educate them on substance use prevention. Provide substance use prevention education within schools and workplaces. Review all program records and files to ensure compliance with established policies. Plan, execute and evaluate Recovery Support Projects. Plan, execute and evaluate Early Intervention Programming in Alternative Schools. Act as liaison with other service providers, schools, and community agencies. Provide training for community members on peer services and resources. Ensure allocated grant programs are operating according to local, state, and federal regulations, contract requirements, and established policies and procedures. Implement prevention strategies based on the guidelines established by APC and the Alabama Dept. of Mental Health. Document all aspects of the job in compliance with agency, contractual, and funding requirements. Communicate with APC team to assure program needs, data needs, and administration requirements are being met on a timely proactive basis. Perform all other related work as assigned. SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Must become a Certified Peer Support Specialist within the first 6 months of employment. Computer Skills Required: E-mail, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Dropbox, Calendar, data entry High School Diploma or Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, public health, counseling, human services, or related field. Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, the ability to lift and transport program materials required. Previous training or experience in public speaking, social services, minority relations, youth programs, planning/coordination, project management, community organization, or teaching preferred. The physical requirements of this job include: sitting, standing, walking and climbing stairs on a regular basis; lifting up to 25lbs, pulling and/or pushing on occasion. PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with colleagues. Must be able to accept supervision, be able to provide program services, be able to follow procedures, and be able to update record keeping systems accurately and efficiently. Ability to take initiative, delegate and manage projects through completion with minimal supervision. Public speaking comfort - including presentations, meetings, and representing the organization in social settings (Presentations, Trainings, Resource fairs, Conferences, Community events, etc.) High degree of maturity and emotional stability. Stable in their recovery with at least one year in consistent recovery. Current or former participant in a substance use treatment program. Ability to maintain effective and cooperative relationships with volunteers, clients, staff members, and other community social service agencies. Strong decision-making and leadership skills. Cooperative spirit to work as a member of a team. Ability to organize well, work with details, and exhibit follow through. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Flexibility with regard to occasional evening and weekend work initiatives. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Full Time Salaried Position Reports to: Director of Operations or Executive Director Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, with occasional weekends Hybrid work week – 3 days in office, 2 days work from home Salary: $38,000 - $42,000 Vacation: 15 vacation days / 10 Wellness Days Benefits: Medical insurance offered / portion paid by employee (less than $100 per pay period) Cell Phone: $50 per month reimbursement Mileage: Monthly reimbursement – Work related travel per federal rate
