General Description The Lead Pastor at Ridgeline Community Church (EFCA) is the most prominent and visible person in the church. He shall abide in the Word of God, taking great care in all his conduct so as to be an esteemed man of respect in the congregation and community. The Lead Pastor’s primary responsibility shall be the teaching and preaching of God’s Word. He is prayer-and mission-minded, striving to fulfill the Great Commission both personally and through the church. He is a leader who participates in the execution of the vision and mission of the church. The Lead Pastor is actively enabling and encouraging members of the congregation to develop their gifts as disciples. As a member of the Board of Elders, the Lead Pastor manages and oversees the ministry of the church. He is accountable to the Board of Elders, to the members of Ridgeline Community Church and ultimately, to God. Responsibilities The Lead Pastor will be responsible for … Teaching and preaching the Word of God with integrity in order to train and to encourage the congregation to use the Scriptures as an integral and guiding influence in daily life. (2 Timothy 4:2) Shepherding the members of the body to develop their individual gifts as disciples for the building up of the body. (Eph 4:11-16, 1 Peter 5:2, 3) Providing Biblical counseling as needed Participating in home and hospital visitations. Participating in church discipline with the goal of lovingly leading the individual to repentance and reconciliation. (Matthew 18:15-17) Participating in the selection of elders. Managing and supervising the staff as a member of the Board of Elders and serving as the liaison between the church staff and the board of elders. As an ex-officio member of all committees, maintaining open communication, shepherding the committee leaders, and being available upon reasonable request. Identifying the need for additional staff; following procedures outlined in the Bylaws for filling these positions. Engaging with local pastors in the community for encouragement, prayer, and building up the Church. Encouraging participation in the ministry of the church. Conducting weddings, funerals, baptisms, and communion in accordance with the Word of God. Accountabilities Promotes, supports, and nurtures individual and corporate prayer in the church. Through awareness of the general health of the congregation, strives to sustain an active membership and a vibrancy of the overall ministry, and takes steps to ensure Ridgeline Community Church grows in spiritual maturity. Documents the state of the church in an annual report presented to the congregation. Realizes his need for personal spiritual growth and development, seeking mentoring from others and spending time in prayer and Bible study. (Hebrews 13:7) Maintains strong and visible links of accountability to God, elders, congregation, and his family. Maintains regular office hours and communicates to staff and elders any changes to the schedule or when planning vacation. Ensures that the pulpit is filled during absences and at least once per quarter by others. Committed and willing to submit to the guidance and direction of the Board of Elders. Connects quarterly with the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) Rocky Mountain District leaders. If he is an ordained minister of the Gospel but is not ordained through the EFCA, he will transfer his credentials to the EFCA. If not ordained, he will pursue ordination with the EFCA as soon as possible, but at most within three years of accepting the lead pastor role. Qualifications He confesses with his mouth that Jesus is Lord and believes in his heart that God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9, 10). He agrees with the 2019 Doctrinal Statement of the EFCA and is willing to abide by Ridgeline Community Church’s Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws. He fulfills the qualifications of an elder. (Titus 1:7-9; 1 Timothy 3:1-7) Displays leadership with experience managing others and the ability to recruit, train, and work with leaders in various ministries and lead them toward specific goals in a mutually supportive and edifying manner. If married, his wife sees herself as part of the body, fully engaged in using her spiritual gifts, and is hospitable. Must have earned at least a Master of Arts or Master of Divinity degree or equivalent, preferably with a demonstrable knowledge of Greek and Hebrew.
