Job descriptionSUMMARYOur future R&D Food Director--is a "Foodie" with a food science background and proven leadership abilities to be accountable for the overall performance of the company's research and development initiatives, creation of innovative products, technologies, and processes that align with the company's strategic goals.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-- Contributes to achievement of the Company's Strategic Sales & Marketing Plan.-- Project Management: Own and oversee the R&D / multiple R&D projects simultaneously, ensuring they stay on track, meet deadlines, and achieve desired outcomes. Allocate resources effectively and manage budgets efficiently.-- Design, coordinate, & execute experiments throughout the development cycle (benchtop, pilot plant, plant trials, commercialization).-- New product development and package completion from concept to production.-- Develop product recipes, recipe changes and process adaptations that meet overall compliance requirements for products and help identify cost savings opportunities.-- Work with cross-functional team and suppliers to create and maintain new/existing raw material and finished good specifications.-- New ingredient and supplier identification and communication with purchasing.-- Participate in R&D and cross-functional team sensory evaluations to determine progress and next steps for new and existing product development activities.-- Prepare product samples for customer evaluation, including invoice, labeling, packing, and shipping documentation.-- Plan and execute shelf-life testing for new and existing products and ingredients.-- Maintain finished product master files to include formulas, specs, nutritional labels, and related documents.-- Ability to develop products that meet customer requirements while balancing Company production capabilities, cost and profitability requirements.-- Training of production management during new product rollout for minimum lapses in production efficiencies.-- Creating and generating new labels for the label approval process-- Assist in the development and execution of the Company's quality programs where applicable.QUALIFICATIONS-- Outgoing and optimistic; you're confident making decisions and taking calculated risks.-- Vision, passion, and imagination; you are not afraid to ask 'what if' and consistently seek to improve the department and Company goals.-- Versatile: you roll with the punches and don't get overwhelmed easily; you enjoy grinding away at issues and have a knack for delivering results in hyper-growth, constantly changing environments.-- High level of integrity and ethics with excellent follow-through.-- Familiarity with HACCP, SQF.-- Personable, responsible, savvy, exceptional negotiating skills, high level of business acumen.-- Comfortable in a processing environment.-- Excitement for working in a fast-paced environment with a high level of ambiguity and change.-- In addition to being proficient and being able to multi-task, must also be focused, organized, and efficient.-- Interest in spending your time on the shop floor and R&D kitchen while working directly with all levels of staff.EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE-- BA, Culinary Arts and/or BS/MS Food, Food Science or equivalent scientific degree a plus.-- Strong culinary experience working in the food industry required.8+ years managerial, mentoring and development skills with the ability to lead and interact with cross-functional teams.PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT-- Standing 50 to 90 percent of the day.-- Lifting of boxes up to 45 pounds.-- Working with hot foods.-- Working with kitchen equipment (knives, stoves, food processors, dry ice)-- Food production atmosphere. Ability to be in and around freezers, coolers and cool food production areas from time to time.Job Type: Full-timePay: $85,000.00 - $90,000.00 per yearBenefits:Dental insuranceHealth insurancePaid time offVision insuranceSchedule:Day shiftMonday to FridayWork Location: In person
