If the answer to those questions is YES, this position is for you!The Journey Youth Pastor serves as the leader of the Student Ministry Department. Primary responsibilities will include providing strategic and visionary leadership to student ministry leaders, volunteers, students (grades 6-12th grade) and parents.This individual will work in concert with the Lead Pastor and other key ministry team members in executing Journeys mission, vision and values. The role is considered full-time exempt. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Position reports to the Lead Pastor. CAPACITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS Passion for God and love for His Word. Represents Christ-like character by conducting personal life and ministry with the utmost integrity. Motivated to recruit, organize and manage teams. Effective at leading, planning and executing student gatherings and events. Accountable in relationships with elders, staff, leaders and parents. Collaborative and cooperative approach to conducting ministry and problem solving. Great communication skills (both written and oral). Attention to detail. Creative approach to ministry. Comfortable leading and learning in a multi-generational staff and context. Mindful of the Holy Spirits prompting and direction during staff and church interaction. Theologically aligned with the beliefs and values of Journey Church. Committed to the Mission, Vision and Values of Journey Church. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Oversee and lead all student ministries and serve as a key staff member who champions ministry to students and their parents. (Focus on: discipleship, mission, nurture, stewardship, worship and leadership). Equip youth to interpret current events considering biblical truths. Solidify youth in their faith, by providing tools that help navigate the bridge between faith and life. Prepare students to have a biblical world view. Mentor and shepherd individual teens to bring them to maturity in Christ. Plan events for equipping, serving, fellowship, and outreach with a goal to broaden the students participation in the overall body of the church. Develop and deliver biblical, passionate, impactful, and relevant teaching to students and parents. Plan and lead Youth group meetings through the year (events might typically include Spring retreats, Kick-off events, Fall Event, Easter Event, Summer Events, Camps etc.). Disciple the current youth leadership team (adult and youth) and recruit, train, and encourage new leaders. Provide opportunities for effective evangelism and ministry to unchurched teenagers in the area. Attend school functions and be present for other activities in which students participate. Equip youth to be active participants/servants and leaders in church activities. Work with the Lead Pastor to implement a strategy for engaging college students and young families. Work with the Kids Ministry Leader to transition children to youth ministries. Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS A bachelors degree in biblical studies or pastoral ministry is preferred. A bachelors degree in any field plus a seminary masters degree will also qualify the individual for this position. Three years of effective leadership of student ministries in a local church setting (preferred). Experience with Google Docs/Sheets/Drive, Microsoft Office, and ideally, Planning Center. Good understanding of media use in ministry.
