College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for the required experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Occasional to moderate travel required. Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed. The incumbent of this position is required to work nights, weekends, and holidays on regular rotating shifts. The incumbent of this position is required to be On:Call on a rotating basis. This incumbent must live within thirty (30) miles of the assigned headquarters located at 11650 Munson Hwy, Milton, Florida throughout employment in this position. NOTES: Successful applicant must pass a background screening, including fingerprinting, as a condition of employment. Days off on a rotation basis. JOB DUTIES: This work is in direct support of fire suppression and other emergency response operations. The incumbent coordinates emergency response of firefighters, supervisors, pilots and law enforcement personnel through the use of a communications center. The Duty Officer deals with critical situations requiring independent judgment. The incumbent has both operational fire control and other support duties. Work may be scheduled over a variety of shifts and the incumbent may frequently remain or be called to duty beyond the assigned work schedule. Receives radio and telephone information from fire towers, law enforcement personnel, aircraft, fire crews, supervisors, and general public concerning wildfires and smoke obscuring highways. Determines action required and dispatches emergency response personnel and/or aircraft if necessary. Keeps up:to:the:minute knowledge of location of all crews and equipment including firefighters and patrol aircraft directly engaged in fire suppression. Approves or denies open burning authorizations by telephone using informed judgment and advises landowners of burning laws and safety precautions. Maintains computer records of all burning. Operates a computer for the purpose of transmitting, receiving, and storing district records, fire reports, burning authorizations, fire readiness report, and daily weather information. Acts as weather observer and reports any unusual weather occurrences to all employees. Provides information to general public on Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' programs.
