Barnes-Jewish Plaza Tower | Barnes-Jewish Hospital (barnesjewish.org) Benefits | BJC Employee Benefits | BJC Total Rewards Charge Nurse/ Team Lead Registered Nurse needed to care for post-surgical Thoracic patients. May occasionally take patients if needed. Duties include patient bed placement, assisting with staffing and assignments, chart and regulatory audits and assistance with orientation and training. Thoracic Surgery Stepdown Registered Nurses care for post-surgical thoracic patients.( Thoracotomies, pneumonectomy, esophagectomy, lung transplant, lung volume reduction surgery (LVRS), thymectomy, nissen fundoplication and hellar myotomy. Nurses in this environment possess strong critical thinking skills and are able to make autonomous decisions. Nurses also have the opportunity to be involved in the patient's progress from the immediate post-op period through discharge. Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose Under the direction of manager, plans, directs, and coordinates activities of a unit on a designated shift. Performs direct patient care as needed and functions as clinical resource to nursing and support staff. Assesses, plans, evaluates and documents the nursing process of assigned unit as needed. Responsibilities Participates in professional development Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration. Develops and implements individual plans of care in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Provides unit leadership for defined period of time using critical thinking assessment and evaluation skills. Evaluate patients response and modifies plan of care accordingly throughout the patients' stay.
