From a financial perspective, KIPP DC will have revenue of more than $220M in FY23 and a balance sheet of ~$500M. POSITION OVERVIEW: KIPP DC has an established and robust education technology program. Our students have 1-to-1 Chromebooks, our portfolio has over 50 programs and tools in use across grade levels, and we spend a lot of time talking about data. The personalized learning specialist will work independently to develop trainings and resources for programs in our portfolio, deliver live and asynchronous trainings, and support schools in their implementations.We are looking for someone with previous successful use of blended learning programs as a classroom teacher, project management experience, and a strong attention to detail. This is an in-person position in our schools in Washington DC. The Personalized Learning Specialist is an exempt role and reports to the Director of Personalized Learning. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Training, Coaching, and Resource Management (75%)Empower KIPP DC school staff and network leaders in using personalized learning products in the classroom and applying the data provided by products.Resource development (throughout the year): Create, update, manage, and share 1-pagers, screencasts, videos, gifs, graphic organizers, etc. for teachers, leaders, and coaches for products in the Personalized Learning Portfolio (PLP). Proactively seek out needs in product implementations and provide resources to prevent problems and address needs. Reactively create additional resources based on incoming requests, repeated questions, and Zendesk tickets. Training development and facilitation (throughout the year): Develop and facilitate training strategy throughout the year, taking ownership of the training cycle for all PLP products, starting with Beginning of Year 101 launch trainings (July – October), through 201 data trainings (October – January), and 301 advanced features trainings (January – March). Work closely with vendors to craft top-tier training for all products. Proactively identify training needs and updates required due to product UI changes; ensure all trainings are kept current. Personalized Learning Resource Center (PLRC) (throughout the year): Strategically manage existing PLRC (internal website) as a dynamic knowledge hub throughout the year. Serve as the go-to resource for teachers, leaders, and coaches seeking information or resources for any program within the PLP. Facilitate connections between PLRC and Central Resource Center (CRC), as well as develop exclusive resources for the CRC. Ensure an intuitive and user-friendly interface for the PLRC (UI/UX design). Maintain the PLRC with up-to-date resources for all programs. Post recorded webinars and other training resources for asynchronous, 24/7 accessibility to all users. Capacity building (throughout the year): Facilitate the integration of personalized learning products through work with teachers, leaders, and coaches, including into core lesson plans and instructional practices across content areas and grade levels, through 1-on-1 meetings, group meetings, office hours, in-classroom coaching, and trainings. Empower teachers, leaders, and coaches to deeply understand opportunities products provide, data available from products that can inform instruction, and best practices. Personalized Learning Power Users (throughout the year): Strategically manage and expand the new Personalized Learning Power Users (PLPU) program to empower teachers and leaders to develop their knowledge of the PLP. Evaluate vendor certification programs for inclusion into the PLPU. Work closely with vendors to craft best-in-class certifications. Create certifications for additional PLP programs. Market the PLPU to our schools to increase PLP buy-in and provide leadership opportunities. Product Management (25%)Support management of the KIPP DC Personalized Learning Portfolio (PLP) proactively and through the entire product lifecycle each school year. Ed tech market (throughout the year): Stay informed of new products entering the ed tech market and improvements to existing products through research, conferences, demos, EdSurge, ISTE, direct vendor connections, and best practices from other K12 districts. Actively participate in national networks of peers and industry experts. Product piloting (September – March): Support piloting for products that might enhance the PLP. This includes products found by the PL team, instructional team, schools, and the Personalized Learning Pilot Project (P3) cohort. Support efficacy data studies to determine if the product is impactful and should be adopted. Manage KIPP DC’s internal P3 program, which empowers innovation among teachers and leaders and facilitates piloting at KIPP DC. Product set-up (during piloting and May – September): Support all product set-up for PLP and additional products for other teams, as needed. Support management of Clever Dashboard and Portals for SSO and rostering for all students, teachers, and staff (approximately 8,500 end users). Project support (throughout the year, as needed): Support large scale adoption of new products across the organization. Coordinate with all relevant teams, monitor progress, and support implementation. Troubleshooting (throughout the year): Serve as level 1 tech support for all products in PLP and as point of contact for all teachers and staff (approximately 1,200 end users) via Zendesk tickets, emails, Slack messages, and calls. Support other teams, including data analysts and student support, in resolving issues with their products and developing resources to support their end users. Work with end users, schools, and vendors to solve problems, update integrations, request needed features, and beta test improvements. Proactively improve macros and tools in Zendesk in response to qualitative and quantitative data. QUALIFICATIONS:Technical depth: 5+ years of experience in K12 education (instructional or technology roles preferred), including 3+ years of classroom teaching experience with a track record of successful use of blending learning programs and tools and strong student achievement required . 2+ years of instructional coaching or district administration roles preferred . Passion for data, technology, and blended learning, with experience teaching with technology and supporting or managing these programs in an educational institution required . Experience with education technology required , experience with some of the following is preferred : Content programs including Accelerated Reader, i-Ready, Lexia, ST Math, and Waterford Tools including Canvas, Google Workspace for Education, Hapara, Nearpod, and Torsh Devices including Chromebooks, iPads, and MacBooks Back-end tools including Clever, Google Sites, and Zendesk a plus Project management and training experience: Successful project management experience in previous positions required , use of project/work management tools preferred . Outstanding attention to detail and proactive iteration mindset required . Track record of achievement in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines and high degree of ambiguity. Ability to design, individually and in collaboration with others, high quality training for teachers. Demonstrated ability to support and coach adults in a variety of instructional settings. Communications and teamwork skills: Articulate, professional demeanor with strong self-confidence, initiative, and leadership skills. Experience working with multiple stakeholders, partners, and audiences. Results-oriented team player who is dedicated to getting the job done. Talent for working productively with a diverse range of people. Experience in leadership of formal and informal professional development and initiatives. Strong communication skills. Conveys information in a way that is strategic, concise, honest, timely, and respectful. Flexibility, tenacity, high quality work, resourcefulness, teamwork, and a sense of humor. Other skills and traits: Bachelor’s degree required ; advanced degree preferred . Certifications including project management, ISTE Certification for Educators, Google Certified Educators a plus. Enthusiasm for working in schools required . Exceptional work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate a high level of responsibility and multiple priorities. Compensation and Benefits KIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package: The anticipated starting salary for this position is $71,615-$85,256. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector. KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical. KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years. Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, and 12 paid holidays. As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in-person support, and this position will regularly provide on-site support to school teams, frequently partner with other headquarters teams, or regularly work in multiple locations. Because of the nature of the work, this role allows for occasional flexibility. This role will primarily be on-site at schools and HDQ.
