JOB OPENING CITY OF FARMINGTON JOB POSITION #75: Library Youth Services Program Clerk NUMBER OF VACANCIES: 3-5 DEPARTMENT: Library TYPE OF POSITION: Temporary, Part Time HIRING RANGE: $12.50 / Hour WORK LOCATION: Farmington Public Library DAYS WORKED: Varies, weekends and some holidays HOURS WORKED: Varies, includes evenings APPLICATIONS WILL BE RECEIVED THROUGH: Monday, May 6th, 2024 JOB DUTIES SELECTION AND SCREENING TOOLS REQUIRED To be considered, applicants must complete a TestGenius test on Customer Service BY WEDNESDAY, MAY 8th. Applicant will receive an email from TestGenius after the online application is received. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Works under the general direction of the Youth Services Coordinator; training and instruction may be provided by Youth Services Librarian or as assigned by Youth Services Coordinator. Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of this position. Must be a team player with strong customer service and time management skills. Creativity, flexibility, ability to multi-task, and follow written and/or verbal instructions are a must. Works and assists to develop, set up, and present programs for the library. Must be comfortable presenting and leading in front of large audiences, public speaking, reading books aloud, theater-type production planning and running crowd control for large groups of youth and teens. Assists at the Youth Services Desk and assists the public with various library services both in person, online and over the telephone. Assists in collecting program attendance statistics, locating library collections for patrons and setting up literacy program displays as assigned. Ability to learn, set up, and take down various audio / visual technology and equipment. Participates and attends staff meetings, trainings, daily shows, programs, and other projects of the library as required and/or assigned. Maintains good organizational skills and considerable ability to pay attention to detail. Assists patrons in a courteous and respectful manner within scope of training; refers patrons to appropriate personnel. Learns procedures and responsibilities primarily through oral instruction and observations, which takes place on the job. Training is hands-on with repetition and reinforcement and requires follow-up. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors and to the public. Attendance is an essential function of this position. Must be available to work varied work schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Complies with Youth Services department and library procedures and policies, and City guidelines, rules, regulations, procedures and policies. QUALIFICATIONS This position is subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Program. This includes pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return-to-duty testing, and follow-up testing. Background check is required. This position requires participation in and compliance with the City's Environmental, Health, and Safety Program. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public. Enjoys working with toddlers, children, youth and teens. Enjoy public speaking and presentation of programs. Ability to learn library procedures, attained through on the job training. Ability to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, etc. Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public, on all age levels and cultural backgrounds, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations. Ability to learn to operate tools and equipment listed. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED : Library's online card catalog and automation system, self-check machines, computer reservation system, personal computer and applicable software, book carts, calculator, copy and fax machines, telephones, mobile devices (such as tablets and mp3 players), audio-visual equipment (such as projectors, sound systems, DVD players), electronic gaming equipment and music system, die-cut equipment, 3D printer and software, and automobile. PHYSICAL DEMANDS : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee will routinely push fully-loaded book carts requiring up to 25 pounds of force. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
