Teacher Residency Program Director University Job Title: Director 1, Academic and EducationalAffairs Bargaining Unit: None - Not included in the union (YaleUnion Group) Time Type: Full time Duration Type: Regular Compensation Grade: Administration & Operations Wage Ranges: Click here to see our Wage Ranges Work Location: Central Campus Worksite Address: 433 Temple StreetNew Haven, CT 06511 Work Week: Standard (M-F equal number of hours perday) Searchable Job Family: Accounting/ Financial,Administration Total # of Hours to be Works: 37.5 Position Focus: In collaboration with New Haven Public Schools (NHPS), SouthernConnecticut State University (SCSU), and New Haven Promise, YaleUniversity is launching a teacher residency program aimed atrecruiting and nurturing high-quality, diverse educators for theNew Haven public school system.Reporting to the Associate Vice President for New Haven Affairs andUniversity Properties in collaboration with the Director of theEducation Studies Program, the Teacher Residency Program Directorwill oversee Yale's role in developing the fellowship program.While the master's degree program will be pursued at SCSU, theDirector will spearhead the launch of the fellowship, managerecruitment efforts, coordinate with partners, and provideYale-based support for fellows and New Haven teachers.The Director will provide leadership, program administration, andteam supervision, and will build collaborations with communitypartners. This multifaceted role combines teacher development,community engagement, project management, and leadership in highereducation.Lead Yale's oversight of the residency program, managing budget andpartnerships. Coordinate with New Haven Promise for Fellowselection. Host recruitment sessions and interface with applicants.Design and lead summer training for mentor teachers.Collaborate with SCSU to support fellowship recipients. Implementmentorship support for fellows and new teachers, fosteringcommunity and professional development. Provide ongoing coachingand professional development workshops. Design program evaluationsand share best practices nationally. Option to advise fellows' SCSUresearch projectsBuild strong relationships with educators, NHPS, and communitypartners. Connect with school district and residency colleaguesaround the country to share best practices. Coordinate with campusunits providing programming for teachers including the EducationStudies Partner Teachers Program. Essential Duties: 1. Directs one or more functional areas within an administrativedepartment of the University and ensure compliance with Universitypolicies and procedures. 2. Directs analytic and research supportfor educational policies and planning, and develops and approvesadministrative policies affecting assigned functional areas of theUniversity. 3. Directs and establishes parameters for majorprojects for the department and University. 4. Interprets federalpolicies and regulations and educates staff and administrationabout regulations, restrictions, and the legal responsibilities ofthe University. 5. Directs and implements policy and programmodifications and develops standards to ensure compliance withfederal, state and local regulations. 6. Develops and administersan operating budget for the assigned department consistent withUniversity policies and procedures. 7. Develops cost savingsobjectives and goals; authorizes major purchases and negotiatescontracts that range from routine to complex in nature. 8.Establishes and implements long- and short-range goals for thefunctional area consistent with University goals and objectives. 9.Directs the development of related automated systems to support thefunction; determines office policies and procedures for use ofautomated systems. 10. Directs the evaluation and selection ofvendors and negotiates contract details including work steps andpricing with the vendors on behalf of the assigned functional area.11. Works with internal and external contacts to solve problemsthat range from routine to complex in nature. 12. Represents theUniversity in discussions and negotiations with variousgovernmental agencies. 13. Directs a staff of exempt and nonexemptemployees. 14. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience: Masters degree plus five years of relevant experience or anequivalent combination of education and experience.Required Skill/Ability 1:Proven and extensive urban public K-12 teaching, curriculumdevelopment, teacher training and coaching experience.Required Skill/Ability 2:Excellent interpersonal, project management and communicationskills.Required Skill/Ability 3:Proven experience and comfort in engaging in conversations aboutrace, anti-racism and the historical legacy of slavery.Required Skill/Ability 4:Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion ineducation.Required Skill/Ability 5:Demonstrated success in building and maintaining partnerships witheducational institutions, community organizations, and otherstakeholders. Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Proven experience in teacher preparation or fellowship programs.Demonstrated experience working in or with urban school districts,particularly with diverse student populations, is stronglypreferred. Familiarity with New Havens educational landscape andhistorical context is highly valued. Experience in higher educationis ideal.
