Job Description:Role Summary:Axalta Coating Systems is a $5 billion global supplier of automotive and industrial coatings. We are seeking a skilled Color Systems Engineer to join Axalta's Global Color Technology team in our Global Innovation Center in Philadelphia, PA. The ideal candidate will have experience in a relevant technical field and have an understanding of color technology and its application in industrial settings.The Color Systems Engineer develops, implements and supports color technology for internal and external color operations largely in support of Axalta's automotive coatings business. Additionally, this role requires close collaboration with R&D and resources in marketing, manufacturing, color formula development and information technology to identify organization needs and develop technical color solutions. Primary responsibilities will include developing and optimizing color matching protocols, conducting hands-on analyses to identify areas for improvement, and implementing solutions to enhance color consistency and accuracy using Axalta's state of the art color matching toolbox. Additionally, you will work with databases pertaining to color matching, coating production and retrieval processes. This role requires proficiency in data retrieval and manipulation, as well as experience with database tools such as SQL and Tableau, along with basic coding skills in MATLAB and Python.Candidates for this role must demonstrate proficiency in color theory and its practical application within manufacturing environments. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in color matching processes. Hands-on experience with measurement hardware systems and data management software applications desired. Key Responsibilities:Employ technical skills in optical measurement, empirical modeling, algorithm development, data science, and color imaging to support our color development labs and continuously improve our color systems and tools. Network with global business, marketing, manufacturing, technology and information technology personnel and participate in working teams of Global Color management.Participate in or lead projects effectively. Use influence across multiple groups in use and leveraging of in-house and new technology. Develop and deliver projects that meet the needs of R&D, Engineering, and customer requirements.Specific Technical Requirements: * MS or PhD degree in Color Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering or related field preferred. BS in relevant field with industry experience also considered. * Demonstrated ability to perform efficient experiments to identify issues, develop relationships and validate results using process/product variables in relation to visual or optical measurement responses, and to interpret, analyze and apply numerical color and appearance measurement. * Experience with theoretical and empirical modeling, statistics, computer systems development and process control. * Experience in commonly used programming and scripting languages for data analytics (Python, Matlab, R, etc.) and database querying (SQL, Tableau).Additional Qualifications: * Effective project management and execution skills. * Ability to work and influence collaboratively and effectively within a global and diverse population. * Ideal candidate is results oriented, creative, and a self-starter who demonstrates technical excellence and is comfortable working in a team environment.Key Behavioral Competencies: * Excellent communication skills to understand and document customer requirements and to effectively convey recommendations to internal customers. * A change agent that has successful track record of building global internal relationships. * A bias for action, and results orientation.Our Company:Axalta has remained at the forefront of the coatings industry by continually investing in innovative solutions.
