Summary The University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts seeks a part-time program assistant with an interest in instructional design and instructional technology. This is a one year, term-limited position at 20 hours per week, with a possibility of transitioning to a permanent part-time position.The Learning and Teaching Assistant supports the LSA Learning and Teaching Consultants, a unit of LSA Technology Services, performing some clerical and some assistant-level Instructional Technologist tasks. This position assists in our outreach campaigns and seminar events, especially with editing and posting email and webpage content, arranging room reservations, and tracking and analyzing attendance at events. In addition, and once fully trained, the Assistant will work directly with faculty to answer basic questions about course set-up in Canvas and troubleshoot common educational technology issues for LSA faculty and staff. Good organizational skills and written communication skills are vital to this position, and experience in teaching or training is a bonus, but no prior experience in instructional technology or instructional design is necessary. The LTC staff will provide all necessary training to the Learning and Teaching Assistant and will work closely with the Assistant on projects. The Assistant will have the opportunity to pursue professional development and certification in this area, if desired. We welcome experience from a wide range of work histories, including teaching, administrative work, communications, patron support, or project assistant experience, as long as you are willing to learn about the field of instructional design. Please Note: This position is hybrid, with both on-site and remote work . The amount of on-site work is flexible, but at least one day per week on-site will be required. Responsibilities* 20% Learning Design and Technology SupportAssist faculty with the creation of basic material and set-up of their Canvas course sites, and trouble-shoot common Canvas issues. Assist faculty with basic set-up and troubleshooting of major third-party tools such as iClicker40% Outreach and Information SupportAssist LTC's outreach programs; review, edit, and post email and blog posts; keep track of the writing and posting schedule and prompt Consultants when necessary. Assist with review and editing of LTC's website, maintain schedule of pages reviewed, prompt Consultants when necessary. Other assistance as necessary, for example creating new posters and flyers or assisting with the creation of surveys for event participants.30% Faculty Development SupportAssist with LTC's seminar series, help brainstorm and review session content, help create the annual schedule and email notices, reserve event space, track attendance and analyze trends. Help with on-site tasks of running events, transport materials, assist with set-up of equipment, direct attendees. 10% Professional DevelopmentTrain with the Consultants in instructional design and instructional technology skills. Pursue courses or workshops in the field, especially for certificate programs. Attend campus and local events and conferences. Required Qualifications* High School diploma or equivalent Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong organizational skills Experience working both independently and with a group Desired Qualifications* A Bachelor's degree in any field Some teaching, training, or tutoring experience Familiarity with Canvas Familiarity with Google and/or MS Office applications Experience formatting text for the web; some knowledge of HTML coding is especially desirable Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite applications or layout tools such as Canva Additional Information This temporary position may meet eligibility requirements for health care benefits.
