SUMMARY The Preschool Teacher is responsible for planning, and implementing the approved preschool curriculum. QUALIFICATIONS Associates Degree with 18 credits in Early Childhood Education or previous teaching experience in a preschool setting. Must be certified in CPR. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Job Functions To interact with all children and to encourage their involvement in activities. To prepare a warm and safe environment that is orderly, clean and appealing and permits the children to grow and explore. To plan weekly lessons based on a curriculum outline. To establish and maintain good communications with parents through conferences and as needed. Prepare materials needed in program prior to class. In addition, must begin and end classes on time. To help children control behavior using a positive appropriate approach. To help children learn good social skills. To develop a cooperative and supportive attitude within the room. Attend all staff meetings. Attend and assist in special events during and after regular school hours. To assist in the general maintenance of the classroom and storage areas. Must attend CPR training. Perform other duties as assigned. SAFETY AND RISK MANAGEMENT Maintains a working knowledge of all general agency and departmental‑specific safety rules. Uses material handling equipment or staff assistance when lifting and or moving objects 30 pounds or less. Reports any work-related or patron injuries to supervisor promptly. Attends required safety program and in‑service education meetings. Corrects unsafe conditions and/or reports them to supervisor. PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS Must work closely with co-workers and the general public. Experiences ongoing concerns for all safety and liability issues. Must have ability to deal with other people under stressful situations. The Preschool Teacher may also have to work under stressful situations when First Aid or CPR are required. PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS Lifting is occasional, usually 30 pounds or less. The teacher may need to respond to situations quickly and accurately. ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS May be required to work during various weather conditions, including hot temperatures. COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS Must be knowledgeable about subject matter and constantly strive for improvement. Must use good judgment at all times and be aware of immediate surroundings. Must be able to respond to and handle children’s behaviors in a positive appropriate manner.
