You will analyze and document the impacts of projects and other department activities on historic properties. You will also function as a tribal liaison through maintaining and building relationships with Oregon and out-of-state Tribes. Apply today! A day in the life: Perform research to assess the impact of transportation projects on archeological resources, traditional cultural properties and culturally important natural resources.Be an expert in interpreting and applying cultural resources-related state and federal statutes.Build and maintain relationships with Tribes and conduct tribal consultation for all assigned agency projects.Assist with construction monitoring for archaeological resources. Coordinate schedules for archaeological surveys, testing and data recovery with the University of Oregon Museum of Natural & Cultural History, the Eastern Washington University Archaeological & Historical Services, and other contractors.Maintain records for cultural resources compliance and prepare and review estimates.Evaluate archeological testing and data recovery proposals for compliance and applicable laws.Provide quality assurance control (QA/QC) for deliverables and work directly with region 5 project delivery teams.Establish and maintain communication with agency staff and various state and federal agencies whose expertise or jurisdiction are related to cultural resource management.Interpret rules and regulations and develop procedures for research and compliance.Draft and review technical reports, memos, determinations of eligibility and other compliance documents.Deliver documents to SHPO, other agencies, tribes and the public.Coordinate education and outreach on transportation-related issues with archaeology and cultural resources.Work is performed in a typical office environment with occasional travel by car for meetings or field work. Trips and/or field work can involve exposure to traffic hazards and may require traveling significant distances and long hours. Minimum qualifications: A graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field AND at least one year of full-time professional experience or equivalent specialized training in archaeological research, administration or management; at least four months of supervised field and analytic experience general North American archaeology and demonstrated ability to carry research to completion. Special qualifications: Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We may also use transferable skills, experience, education and alignment with ODOT values to help us decide who will move forward.Proven ability to work in a team environment.Knowledge of Oregon and federal cultural resources laws and regulations and experience conducting regulatory compliance activities for Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act - experience with transportation projects is preferred.Experience conducting archaeological research and field work to determine and document effects of projects or programs on cultural resources.Experience developing and managing contracts for cultural resource work.Strong organizational and technical writing skills.Experience consulting with the State Historic Preservation Office and Native American Tribes.Preference will be given to applicants who meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology.
