The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa is seeking a Research Psychotherapist in Psychedelic Medicine to join an amazing team in pursuit of the advancement and scientific efforts in the field of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. The clinical research associate's expertise in psychotherapy will be used during sessions to help prepare participants for the drug experience, guide and affirm participants on the day of the drug experience and help process and integrate their experience post drug administration. This position will provide health-related services and support to assure effective and efficient delivery of care in a controlled research environment.Characteristic Duties and ResponsibilitiesDemonstrates knowledge of psychedelic assisted psychotherapy.Demonstrates conceptual and technical knowledge.Demonstrates ability to apply theoretical knowledge.Completes further education related to job/assignment.Maintain liaison with internal and external community relations which include sponsoring agencies, organizations, as well as with other research and educational institutions. Participate in determining research priorities and planning programs of research. Serve as an expert consultant on psychotherapy and drug administration.Train local staff and external collaborators in all aspects of psychotherapy and drug administration.Assistant with the preparation of grant proposals.Attend and participate in training, meetings, conferences, and workshops.Research Project Development and Management Demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of research techniques and procedures relating to the performance of medical/social science research. Assist and advise in study design and protocol development; provide input into descriptions of complex research procedures. Perform and oversee execution, administration, and maintenance of study protocols. Serve as liaison between collaborating treatment providers and/or departments. If necessary, perform library research on specified topics and prepare bibliographies and abstracts according to instructions. Assist in the preparation of material for reports to be written by faculty and staff on research projects. Respond to inquiries about assigned projects and present at informational sessions and panel discussions as requested. Prepare information upon request for reporting to funding source(s). Data Collection, Monitoring and ReportingIndependently design, develop, test, and maintain clinical research data systems. Score and record data collected; perform and oversee data entry, data audit, and maintenance of computerized databases. Revise and implement change in data collection as indicated. Validate data, review query reports, and make recommendations for resolutions. Perform and monitor randomizations. Perform on-site audits of research and clinical data. Perform chart review for data collection within protocol guidelines. Training in Psychedelic Medicine PsychotherapyAssist in developing and administering a training protocol to educate other therapists and clinicians in the administration of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.Regulatory Guidelines and DocumentsManage and monitor compliance of regulatory guidelines and proper maintenance of documents; prepare regulatory submissions. Communicate with IRB staff and investigators, resolve all monitoring visit issues, and recommend corrective action for reportable events. Classification Title: Clinical HC Research Associate, PRA2, P&S Level 5APercent of Time: 50% part time or 100% full-timeEducation and Licensure RequiredMaster's degree, PhD, or PsyDA license to practice psychotherapy in Iowa (PhD or PsyD, LISW, or LMHC).Required QualificationsMinimum of 3 years' experience as a psychotherapistExcellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are required. Desirable QualificationsClinic experience in addiction.Interest and / or experience in psychedelic medicine.Demonstrated leadership skills including critical thinking, independent decision-making, time management, and program development activities. Ability to coordinate complex planning efforts involving multiple disciplines, departments, and community resources.Solid understanding of community resources available for a variety of medical and psychiatric conditions including knowledge and experience with levels of care, federal and state regulations, and financial resources.
