Job Description: NATURE OF WORK This is managerial and technical work directing installation, maintenance, repair, testing, and operation of substation power system apparatus and protective relays. CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS Positions allocated to this class report to a designated supervisor and work under general supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from higher classes by its lack of overall department responsibility and from lower classes by its management responsibility and emphasis on electric systems and substation facilities. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Plans, organizes, and directs work of personnel engaged in installation, maintenance, testing, repair, and operation of power transformers, power circuit breakers, switchgear, power system protective relaying, control switchboards, and associated equipment. Coordinates and directs activities of consulting firms and contractors on major utility projects involving transmission and substation facilities. Oversees and directs short circuit and stability studies used in relay setting calculations, power system relay coordination, and power circuit breaker evaluations. Oversees preparation of technical specifications and bid evaluations for power system apparatus. Assists in administering labor agreements. Recommends selection, promotion, discharge, and other appropriate personnel actions. Prepares, submits, and monitors annual divisional budget. Formulates policies for operating functions. Attends work on continuous and regular basis. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in an engineering or science discipline acceptable to management, and eight years progressively responsible experience in utilities engineering, utilities consulting, or related field, including four years supervisory experience, or any equivalent combination of education or experience. LICENSES/CERTIFICATES Valid Florida Driver?s License required. Valid State of Florida Professional Engineer license desired.
