The Position The Excel Program seeks a full-time seasonal Aquatics Director . Under the direction of the EXCEL Program Director, the Aquatics Director is expected to oversee the lifeguard team throughout the camp experience, assign them to daily lesson groups, shifts on the stand, and oversee the swim program for EXCEL and Horizons and ensure the safety and well-being of their staff and the campers. About You Successful candidates for this position will: Work a full weekly/hourly schedule for pool staff (8:30 am to 3:00 pm daily). Make a positive impact on children while receiving hands-on experience in a camp setting, professional development, resume building, and networking opportunities. Be able to properly implement pool supervision as a lifeguard and demonstrate the ability to complete saves during weekly safety drills and if needed during shifts on stand at the pool. Develop the schedule and assign staff to lessons and stand shifts weekly. Adjust as needed. Demonstrate to the team how to instruct during group swim lessons for children of all ages and skill levels. Adapt and Implement lesson plans and activities to meet the individual needs of each swimmer. Use effective management and supervision skills to lead the staff. Utilize positive reinforcement techniques to motivate and encourage staff to reach their goals with swimmers during lessons. Be able to offer feedback to staff to help improve or enhance work performance as needed. Be responsible for the supervision of staff and campers with attention to behavior and group management, health, safety, security, and personal and skill development. Inform the Excel Program Director or Horizons Director of any concerns regarding the health and safety of the students or other staff members. Implement camp program activities during pool closures as needed.; includes outdoor and indoor activities. Work effectively with fellow summer staff members and collaborate on daily responsibilities. Complete assigned paperwork (skills tracking review weekly). Follow all procedures as noted in the Excel Directors Manual and Aquatics Manual. Work with pool maintenance staff to correct any issues with chemicals or biologicals. Serve as a positive role model to children and staff on campus. Professional interaction with students, their families, peers, the leadership team, and the larger campus/school community. Push/pull, lift, and carry a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds across campus. Possess the physical capacity to fulfill all essential job functions. Other responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is required before the start of camp. Prior experience teaching, coaching, and leading a staff preferred. Previous experience working with children. Complete all background checks required by the Department of Education. Valid Driver's License required.
