This is sanitation work at the second supervisory level, supervising through subordinate Street Crew Chiefs, a group of labor crews engaged in waste collection, recycling, street cleaning, and when necessary, the removal of snow within a geographical sanitation district of a municipal sanitation program. Significant aspects of the work include establishing effective working relationships with employees, civic groups, and the public and supervising all district activities.Work is performed under the direction of an administrative superior. Work involves exposure to unfavorable weather conditions. Union Code N. Candidates must meet requirements within 30 days after the last date for filing applications. 1. CIVIL SERVICE STATUS : Presently employed by the City of Philadelphia with permanent Civil Service status in the Streets Department with a performance rating of Satisfactory or higher. AND 2. EDUCATION : Equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade. AND 2. GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Three years of field experience in municipal waste collection or waste disposal plant maintenance work. AND 3. SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE : Four years of experience supervising a number of labor and equipment operator crews engaged in the activities of a municipal waste collection program, or four years experience at the Crew Chief level supervising the operation, maintenance, and repair activities in a solid waste incinerator or transfer plant. Physical & Medical Requirements Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class. Required Licenses & Certifications Possession of a valid Class B - Commercial Drivers License ( CDL ) issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to the scheduled examination and during tenure of appointment as a Waste Collection District Supervisor.
