DESIGN INSPECTOR TRAINEE The Design Inspector assists with the inspection and surveying of water main installations, organizes and scans documents, maps, drawings, work orders, and tap orders. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Scans documents, maps, drawings, work orders and tap orders; retrieves and replaces hard copies of files. Assists with inspections and surveys of water line installations to ensure compliance with system specifications; conducts valve and hydrant inspections. Assists with surveys of water lines with GPS instruments. Assists with locating utilities using a variety of tools and technologies. Assists in producing computer-aided designs for the installation of new water lines; creates and/or revises as-built drawings to indicate the location of mains, valves, etc. Maintains complete and accurate job files; maintains and updates computer data and water system maps. Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints from the public regarding department projects and plans. Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports including engineering drawings, plats, aerial photographs, maps, work orders, job files, material lists, as-builts, inspection reports, locate orders, survey notes, test orders and results, permits, etc. Provides customer service and performs general office work as needed. Conducts water pressure/flow tests. Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by some experience in surveying, technical drafting and/or computer-aided design, is required; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily.
