Assistant Research Scientist I - Post Doc - C-BIN

Location:
Orangeburg, NY
Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI) is currently seeking a postdoctoral researcher (full-time 2 to 5 years contingent upon satisfactory performance) in the Center for Biomedical Imaging and Neuromodulation to work on the multi-modal characterization of dynamic human brain states (e.g. combined EEG-fMRI, pupillometry, galvanic skin response, cardiac, and respiratory measurements, etc.) and their relevance for ongoing behavior and cognition (e.g. spontaneous cognition and memory consolidation). The Nathan Kline Institute fosters a collaborative environment where post-doctoral researchers have the opportunity to gain excellent experience for careers in neuroscience or clinical research. This position provides an ideal training opportunity for post-doctoral researchers seeking to further their research career with an interest in dynamic, multimodal human neuroscience. The candidate will interact with two funded, cutting-edge neuroimaging research programs: the Next Generation Digital Therapeutics Program (NGTD) and CONTE Center for Slow Brain Network Fluctuations. This advanced training position provides the opportunity to lead projects analyzing existing, high-quality multimodal neuroimaging datasets (simultaneous EEG-fMRI, pupillometry, etc.), and novel multimodal data acquisition and experimental designs for funded projects (with support from research staff). Fellows will have the opportunity to lead projects and obtain first-author publications, as well as initial hands-on training on grant writing. The experiences gained under the mentorship will provide excellent skills for the transition into an independent researcher role. Reporting to the Dr. Tambini, Center for Biomedical Imaging and Neuromodulation (C-BIN), NKI. This is an exempt, full-time position located in Orangeburg, NY. JOB DUTIES: Key Responsibilities: Using measures of neurophysiology to understand brain function. Lead projects to analyze existing multimodal, EEG-fMRI data, including the prediction of fMRI-based dynamic brain states from non-fMRI signals Support novel data acquisition, management, and quality assessment during ongoing data collection Assist in the supervision of junior research staff that are primarily responsible for multimodal data acquisition Perform multi-modal characterizations of time-varying brain network fluctuations across a range of experimental task contexts and their link with behavior and ongoing cognition Problem-solving for issues with the data processing and analytic tools Present outputs from projects at conferences, and prepare manuscripts for publication Work in a collaborative research environment that merges expertise in a broad range of disciplines, including multimodal EEG-fMRI data acquisition, neuromodulation, EEG and fMRI data analysis, spontaneous cognitive processes and behavior, and cognitive neuroscience. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Required Skills and Experience: Completed Ph.D. in cognitive neuroscience, biomedical engineering, computer science, clinical neuroscience, clinical psychology, mathematics, neuropsychology, or related fields Advanced neuroimaging skills with one or more imaging modalities (fMRI, DTI, MRI, EEG, MEG) Prior research experience with multimodal data acquisition or analysis is preferred but not required (e.g. EEG-fMRI, fMRI+pupillometry, GSR+EEG, etc.) Prior experience working with advanced analytic methods and approaches for MRI or EEG data Strong skills in the usage of one or more common functional neuroimaging or EEG packages (e.g., AFNI, FSL, SPM, EEGLAB, Fieldtrip, MNE, etc.) Strong programming experience in one or more languages (e.g., Python, R, Matlab or similar) is required. The candidate must be willing to develop expertise in Python during the first year of the fellowship. Strong communication skills in English and work in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment Background Investigation/Justice Center Review Requirements : Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs.
