Beacon is backed by a well-known Houston-based private equity firm with a perpetual structure. As such, Beacon has substantial capital and experience with which to execute its strategy of developing, partnering with, and operating premier funeral homes in attractive markets. Beacons team is growing and its primary shared services location in Sugar Land, TX is bolstering its growing Finance & Accounting Team. The Senior Accountants responsibilities include preparing financial reports, maintaining reconciled accounts, maintaining the general ledger, posting journal entries, assisting with audit preparation, and performing other accounting duties as assigned. Senior Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organizations assets, liabilities, profit and loss, cash, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities while serving as a key member of Beacons flexible Accounting & Finance Team and taking a pivotal role within the organization. The Senior Accountant will contribute to continuous process improvement to help scale Beacon and support of the vision of the Company as it grows to well over 100 locations. This position will allow for significant professional growth in a dynamic environment, including increasing responsibilities with P&L and balance sheet ownership of multiple locations and opportunities for leadership as our enterprise and team grows. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provide excellent internal customer service to our locations and contribute to a collaborative workplace culture. Review central and field administrative and accounting processes to identify which processes are valuable, which are inefficient, and processes that should be changed, eliminated, or improved. Nurture and support value-added field administrative and accounting working processes to streamline workflows, minimize wastage, mitigate redundancies, and improve quality of accounting product. Review, analyze and prepare monthly journal entries for month end close, including accruals, revenue recognition, payroll entries, amortizations, cost allocations and any other that may be required and include sufficient supporting documentation. Reconcile monthly accounts by way of preparing balance sheet reconciliations for various legal entities and provide explanations for unusual balances. Supervise and lead Staff Accountants, assign tasks accordingly, and act as a leader and mentor. Coordinate and support budget plan and implementation. Lead the onboarding of corporate acquisitions including subsidiary GL setup, vendor updates, assistance with Treasury setup, and operations software setup. Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports. Provide support for the internal and external audits by preparing audit schedules such as cutoff testing for revenue and expenses, obtaining requested documentation, and providing transaction & process explanations as needed. Review, update and create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for accounting policies and practices. Assist in proposing, reviewing, and implementing accounting and control procedures as necessary to meet established Company goals. Communicate with local senior leadership to explain financial variances Ability to solve practical problems, think and act proactively and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization or information exists. Ability to train others on accounting matters, accounting software, and operations software Other responsibilities include monitoring and handling intercompany transactions, cash management, bank reconciliations, recording fixed asset acquisitions and other specific request as required to support the department. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelors degree in accounting from an accredited university is preferred. Minimum 3 to 7 years of related experience. Must be an outstanding communicator, written and oral. Must have excellent customer service skills and patience when dealing with our partners in the field. Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Strong knowledge of MS office with advanced MS Excel skills required. Experience with ERP software: NetSuite or other integrated accounting software experience preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Able to prioritize multiple tasks and projects running concurrently. Able to perform adequate research to investigate issues and propose solutions.
