JOB PURPOSE The teaching assistant works with the lead teacher to meet the needs of the students in a developmentally appropriate manner and contributes to a successful Primary Years Programme (PYP). The assistant helps to foster an atmosphere conducive to inclusive, transdisciplinary learning through the lens of inquiry, embedding visible thinking. This is a full-time teaching assistant position for students in Primary School. FLSA: Exempt Reports to: Head of Primary School Start Date: August 1, 2024 Application Deadline: April 26, 2024 RESPONSIBILITIES Collaborate closely with the lead teacher(s) to create a seamless experience for the students. Lead small groups of students in curricular activities in English and Chinese. Circulate through the learning environment assisting students. Help with classroom management, taking over the class if the teacher is out of the room. Carry out supervision duties (recess, lunch, etc…) and support with the preparation of classroom materials. Provide ongoing feedback to students about their learning growth. Ideal candidates will have experience with various pedagogical approaches and will be excited by the opportunity to teach a diverse student body in an inquisitive and inquiry-based environment. The ideal candidate has demonstrated effective equitable and inclusive practices within and outside the classroom. A passion for working with Primary School students, a flexible attitude, a commitment to lifelong learning, and a sense of humor are essential. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS An unwavering commitment to the students. A high degree of proficiency in English and Chinese. An understanding of the principles of second language acquisition or experience in a bilingual/multilingual environment. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is preferable Training and experience in a Primary School setting are preferable A commitment to equity, inclusion, and inquiry pedagogy is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners. Enthusiastic about teaching within a multicultural and multilingual environment. Flexibility of approach and a collaborative style are essential. Experience with the IB PYP is desirable, but good applicants with other curriculum experience are also welcome to apply.
