The Mission Neighborhood Health Center (MNHC) is a non-profit, multi-site community health organization offering comprehensive health services in the Mission and Excelsior Districts of San Francisco. The center offers primary health care services, adult medicine, pediatrics, family planning, OB/GYN, HIV and homeless services. We advocate for health equity and deliver innovative, high-quality services responsive to the neighborhoods and diverse communities we serve with a focus on the Latino Spanish-Speaking Communities.We are currently looking for qualified candidates for our Medical Assistant (Peds Clinic) role. This position reports to the Clinic Manager and is a Regular, Full Time, Non-Exempt role with a starting hourly rate of $25.23 with full benefits . Primary Objective: The Medical Assistant performs various clinical and administrative duties such as, but not limited to, receiving and releasing patients in the reception area, assisting in the preparation of patients, answering incoming calls, coordinating patient flow, maintaining exam room inventory, preparing charts, including electronic medical records for scheduled appointments, scheduling new and follow-up appointments and other duties as assigned. The Medical Assistant may be assigned to other departments or sites to perform front desk, back office or hands-on-clinic duty on any given day or various duties during a shift, as needed for optimal patient flow. Essential Functions & Responsibilities: Prepare rooms each day for clinic and between patients as necessary. Includes replacing /restocking supplies; cleaning the counters, sink, exam chair, children's toys/books; restocking forms and handouts, etc. Complete confirmation calls and visit/chart preparation prior to each clinical day/shift. Promote a team-based approach to care and ensure excellent flow during the clinical shift pro-actively communicating with the provider you are working with, anticipating their needs and the needs of the patients and fellow staff. During the clinical shift, intake all patients, take and record vital signs, document patient history as relevant, listen to the patients’ chief complaint, and set patient expectations for the visit. Prepare and administer immunizations as ordered by the medical provider. Prepare and administer point-of-care HbA1c and glucose tests, Pulmonary Function Tests (peakflow), EKG's and Nebulizer treatments, as ordered by the provider. Perform phlebotomy and urinalysis, when ordered by the provider. Provide educational materials as ordered by the provider Schedule patient follow-up visits and explain any follow-up care required for the patient, including referrals to outside specialist. Prepare rooms for procedures as necessary, with all required equipment and supplies. Assist providers with procedures. Complete all required documentation in the Electronic Health Record, correctly and efficiently. Sterilize equipment using the autoclave and clean the autoclave as assigned. Use i2i Tracks Health Registry to produce, huddle reports, patient panel reports and follow up on referrals, lab results, etc. Use i2i Tracks to print Visit Summary sheets and follow-up with individual patients regarding recommended health care services (i.e. patient re-calls). Provide translation services when necessary (English/Spanish). Cover for the clinic receptionist as necessary. Includes answering phones, scheduling/re-scheduling appointments, making confirmation calls, etc. Demonstrate an awareness of clinic policies, procedures, protocols, and workflows, as well as scope of practice limitations Preserve the integrity and confidentiality of patient's medical records and other sensitive information as required by HIPAA Security Policy within and outside the workplace. Cross-train in other clinic departments beyond your home department, in order to ensure sufficient and stable staffing across the organization. Possibility to work evenings on Wednesday and Thursday. Qualifications: Bilingual in English and Spanish required. High School Degree or GED. Completion of accredited Medical Assistant program required. Basic Life Support Certificate. National Certification as a Medical Assistant strongly preferred. Six months experience preferred. Familiarity with third party reimbursement programs preferred. Phlebotomy experience preferred. Non-profit, community health care setting experience preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Outlook, Word, Excel preferred. Experience with Practice management systems and Electronic Health Records. Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality when dealing with patient records and personal information.
