Position Description Job Summary What's the job? The Senior Design Drafter is a skilled professional who collaborates with CertainTeed Roofing TIP (Technology and Industrial Performance) engineers to convert designs into technical plans based on exact specifications. The incumbent will provide design and drafting services for the development of equipment and processes in support of engineering projects undertaken by the Technical Office and the Project Management Office. The main responsibility of this role is to create engineering designs, drawings, and other technical information for use in manufacturing, construction, and fabrication.The Senior Design Drafter will work both independently and collaboratively to transfer these various new design ideas and process solutions into practical machines and equipment and to develop the associated 3D models and construction drawings. The successful Senior Design Drafter can take conceptual ideas and create formal drawings using their knowledge of design, materials, and fabrication.As the lead person in the Drawing Office, this person will also be responsible to maintain the library of drawings and designs and shall provide guidance to other permanent and contract draftspersons on their use.The Senior Design Drafter continuously seeks and utilizes feedback from the Roofing TIP teams to create and keep current best in class standards and documents. Create engineering drawings and designs for concept, manufacturing, construction, and fabrication. Estimate material and production costs for designs. Calculate dimensions, weight limitations, and measurements for designs. Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) when needed. Collaborate with the design team to review drawings and designs. Verify designs and drawings are correct to specifications, codes, company regulations, and quality standards. Recommend equipment design and specification improvements. Set up drawing formats and configuration files. Administer the Technical Office drawing library data management system (Autodesk Vault or Synergis Adept) and make recommendations on the software evolution strategy. Optimize the structure of the Technical Office drawing library. Define standard workflows and procedures. Keep abreast of new design software developments and recommend the implementation strategy balancing upgrade costs and Drawing Office productivity Required Qualifications What do you bring? Degree in engineering, drafting, design, or similar field is required. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred. 7+ years' experience as a design drafter or similar role. 5+ years' experience supervising other drafters and/or technical persons. Excellent knowledge of architectural and engineering design principles in an industrial manufacturing environment. Preference given for time spent in a design/drafting role in an industrial manufacturing environment working with 3D models of manufacturing equipment and large-scale models of plant areas. Comprehensive knowledge and experience producing manufacturing drawings and layouts at the expert level in CAD design and 3D modelling. Expert user of Autodesk software, including Inventor, Revit, and AutoCAD. Proficient user of Microsoft office suite of software, including Word, Excel, and Power Point. Some experience with Stress & Structural Analysis. Experience developing designs for new products. Experience working with fabricators. Some experience administering data management software such as Autodesk Vault and Synergis Adept. Additional Description Hybrid (Remote + Plant/office) This position will require travel up to 30%.
