JOB DESCRIPTION Bridges to Readiness invites enthusiastic individuals to join our team as summer facilitators for small group math and reading/phonics sessions for 2nd - 6th grade students in the DFW area. Our tutors are instrumental in delivering customized academic support, helping students strengthen their math and reading skills, and fostering a positive attitude towards learning. This position will support a four-week summer program, with exact dates and location within the DFW area to be announced. Virtual training sessions will precede the program, with specific dates TBD. On-site training and the program schedule will be communicated in advance. Tutors will be expected to facilitate sessions in reading, math, and/or electives, adhering to a Monday-Friday schedule. Tutors may be assigned to facilitate courses in reading and/or math in addition to our “community building” and “special topics” courses. Curriculum will be provided for all academic and community sessions. Special topics facilitators may be asked to support developing curriculum and materials lists based on your knowledge and expertise. Special topics anticipated align with the arts component of Edison and may include (but are not limited to) STEM, music, dance/movement, visual arts, or theater. Please indicate on your application if you have experience or interest in teaching in any of these areas. Sample daily schedule (this is subject to change as the dates and facility are secured): TIME Note: Schedule is subject to change SESSION DETAILS 8:30 - 9:00 Breakfast/ Arrival Whole Group 9:00 - 9:30 Community Building Larger Group (10-15 students) 9:30 - 11:00 Block 1: Math Small group (6 students) 11:00 - 11:30 Lunch Whole Group 11:30 - 1:00 Block 2: - Phonics & Comprehension (Grades 2-3) - Reading/ Language Arts (Grades 4-6) Small group (6 students) 1:00 - 2:00 Special topics: STEM, Splash on Fridays Larger group (10-15 students) 2:00-2:30 Dismissal/ Debrief Whole Group ABOUT BRIDGES TO READINESS Bridges to Readiness is dedicated to preparing students for their future academic challenges and opportunities. TUTOR RESPONSIBILITIES Lead personalized tutoring sessions: Create an engaging, supportive online learning environment that encourages participation, understanding, and confidence in math and/or reading. Foster Understanding and Mastery: Help students grasp fundamental math and/or reading concepts and skills, guiding them through curriculum-aligned content and problem-solving strategies to enhance their understanding and application of mathematical and phonetic ideas. ​​​​​​ Collaborate and Communicate: Work closely with students to identify their current learning levels, set realistic goals, and monitor their progress. Maintain open communication with families, offering updates on students' achievements and advising on next steps for continued growth. Track student progress: Track and analyze students' performance data in math and reading to ensure a comprehensive overview of their development over time. TRAINING In addition to being available for the duration of the in-person program, we will expect you to attend training. Virtual Training: 2-4 hours of virtual training. In-person Training: Up to 7 hours of on-site training QUALIFICATIONS Education: Current or previous teacher certification in Indiana or a state with similar requirements, or enrollment in a teacher preparation program is required Previous Work Experience: Ideal candidates will be current or prior K-8th grade teachers, with track records of success and deep content knowledge. Previous tutoring experience is strongly preferred. Background Check: All applicants will be required to pass a background check. Availability: You must be available for all training and the entirety of the camp. (Make-up training sessions may be offered in case of a conflict.) WHAT WE OFFER Competitive Compensation: Tutors will receive a stipend of $4,670 paid in 4 equal payments throughout the program. (Benefits are not included.) Training and Support: Every tutor goes through advanced training with one of our content area leaders. Standards-based training is one-of-a-kind and unique to Bridges to Readiness. You’ll receive ongoing support to be as effective in your role as possible. Technology: Tutors are provided with an email account and access to Bridges to Readiness’s materials and resources. (Note: tutors must provide their own computer or tablet for virtual training.)
