For the people, and the future!” Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) award two-time recipient from INSIGHT into Diversity (2022,2023) Position Start Date: Monday, January 8, 2024 Summary: The Anatomy Technician supports departmental efforts in curating, preparing, and maintaining our collections of anatomic materials that support our educational mission. Reporting directly to the Director of the Gross Anatomy Laboratory, the Anatomy Technician works in the Gross Anatomy Laboratory, preparing human donor bodies for medical student instruction; assists with set-ups and clean-ups of our gross anatomy; ultrasound, and radiology labs; in the preparation and administration of examinations in our lab courses; and in supporting other institutional educational and research activities as assigned. This position is Non-Exempt. This position reports to the Director of the Gross Anatomy Lab. This position starts at $40,060 annual/$19.26 per hour depending on experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assisting in the setup of anatomy lab sessions, open labs, and practical examinations Dissecting human donor material for use in laboratory sessions and practical examinations Conducting (with th e lab director) the regular inventory of laboratory specimens and other institutional anatomical resources, including but not limited to anatomical models. Maintain an up-to-date inventory and listing of the laboratory’s Material Safety Data documents for the institutional chemical inventory. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Experience: Education: Earned degree in a biological or clinical science preferred but comparable experience may be considered instead, depending upon other credentials. Licensure or certification: This position requires no licensure, as the work is performed in an accredited medical school setting. Experience: Previous experience in a laboratory setting and familiarity with the regulatory and training expectations for laboratory personnel regarding safety, equipment handling, and research are essential. Significant experience in dissection and an understanding of the ethical framework in which the gross anatomy lab and the use of human donor bodies operate are highly desirable. Preferences: Preferences may be given to applicants who have documented coursework or experience in chemical or occupational safety or human gross anatomy and/or l icensure or experience in embalming or funeral service. The employee must be comfortable occasionally lifting and/or shifting and moving human donor bodies. There is NOT an expectation to do this alone, but rather, take part in the effort with a team.
