SALES ENGINEER Main Objective: Pelican Wire, a leading manufacturer of wire and cable, is seeking a Sales Engineer with an engineering background to join our sales team. Our ideal candidate is a motivated individual who will use their knowledge and expertise to support all departments of the company and bring solutions to our customers. They will also provide quotations to customers by utilizing sales and technical knowledge for the preparation of quotation packages for moderately complex projects as well as support the engineering team in the development of these projects. As a Sales Engineer, they will be responsible for the sale, design, development, implementation, improvement and documentation of the wire and cable part and manufacturing process to safely produce a quality product. Essential Functions: Matches products and services to customer specifications by demonstrating thorough product knowledge and manufacturing capabilities. Accept, handle, manage and respond to inquiries, requests for quotations, orders, and questions from prospective and current customers. Collaborate with sales team to understand customer requirements. Travel to customers (25%-50%) and maintain regular contact for both new and existing business. Involved in the quote to order transfer/approval process to ensure accurate/timely execution. Provide process support on manufacturing technical or material issues and serves as a technical liaison for customers and suppliers regarding the manufacturing process. Work across company departments to support and facilitate purchasing, work orders, production, warehousing, quality, and manufacturing. Creates and maintains required part and process documentation to communicate defined process, best practices, and facilitate a culture of discipline and standardization. Stays abreast of appropriate or emerging technologies, drives development and implementation of best practices. Maintain knowledge of applicable standards and certifications across many industries. Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other technical field required. 3+ years of technical sales or consulting experience in a manufacturing environment. Wire and cable and/or plastics manufacturing process experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to influence, persuade and negotiate in a technical environment. Have a demonstrated ability to build relationships with all levels of customer organizations. Effective communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical staff. Detail oriented with strong analytical skills and ability to work autonomously and collaboratively. Mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot inefficiencies with operation/production activities. Ability to analyze customer needs and accurately translate drawings, specifications, and quotes. Adaptable, collaborative, and able to work with internal teams, customers, and suppliers. Ability to make risk-based decisions in a fast pace, manufacturing environment. Strong skills in project management and quantitative analysis. Recognized process improvement training (Lean, Six Sigma). Work Environment: Work is primarily indoors in a climate-controlled office and manufacturing area; noise level is quiet to moderate. Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, vibration, and hazards. Steel toe shoes and ear plugs may be required when in the manufacturing areas.
